“You should’ve just left me alone.”

“Yeah. Probably. But I didn’t want to.”

Prue cries as I drive down the highway. Sobs so hard she shakes. I pass her napkins, which she snatches from my hands, glaring as she cries.

“Has he touched you?” I finally ask.

“No. He won’t fuck me until I get tested. Wants to make sure you didn’t give me anything,” she snaps.

“Has he hurt you in any other way?”

“Not really,” she says softly. “A few rough grabs, but mostly he hasn’t touched me at all. My punishment comes when the test comes back.”

“Good. I’m glad you haven’t had to endure any more pain, and I don’t have to extract any more revenge than I was already planning.”

“What is your plan?”

“Lock you up somewhere safe and kill him.”

“You’re really going to commit murder?”

“Yes.” I nod glancing at her. “I was hoping to just murder his reputation, but you took that opportunity away.”

“You mean when I saved you from prison?”

“Yes.”

“You do know if you got sent to prison, he’d come for me after, right?”

“No, because I would’ve killed him while out on bail.”

“So, your plan has always been killing him?” she snaps.

“I don’t fucking know, okay?” I bark out. “I don’t know what to fucking do. I have no clue if any of my plans are going to work, but if I don’t try something to keep you from a miserable life of pain and unhappiness, I will kill myself.”

“Ben…”

“I don’t need you to be happy with me, Prue. I don’t care if I spend the rest of my life in a cage, if it means you get to be free and a chance at happiness. I’d give it all up for you. Not that I have a lot going on anyways, but still. The stage, the feeling of a guitar in my hands, the fame, my freedom. Fuck, I’d give up cumming for you. I just can’t let you give up anything for me. I don’t deserve it, Prue, but you do.”

“I don’t want to be with him.” She sobs, pressing her hands into her face. “I don’t want any of this.”

I take the next exit, pulling into the first parking lot I can find. Putting the car into park, I reach over, prying her hands from her face.

“Look at me, baby. It’s going to be okay. I’ll find a way to get you out of this mess.”

“No, because if you kill him, I can’t have you either,” she whimpers, pressing her head into my chest. “Oh God.”

I stroke her back as she cries into my chest, ignoring the pain in my ribs.

Her words are nice to hear. Really nice in fact. I like that she wants to have me. Unfortunately for the both of us, I’m not sure that’s going to be possible. I’m not sure there is a way for us both to be free.

If all goes according to plan, there is no way this ends with us together.

A buzzing from her pocket has her pulling back from me. She slides out her phone from her pocket, staring at the name on the screen. I don’t need to see it to know who it is. Taking it from her hand, I hit answer.

“Hello,” I say.

“You,” Charles yells into the phone. “Did you not learn your fucking lesson?”
