“Just don’t kill us, okay?” He laughs.
“No promises.” I beam, dropping the keys in the cup holder and turning to press the power button.
Taking a moment, I admire the interior of the vehicle, which screams luxury from top to bottom. It’s making me slightly apprehensive about even sitting here, fearing I might accidentally cause some damage. The new leather smell enhances the rich vibe, along with the cleanliness of the car and the red leather seats with black stitching.
Running my hands over the cold steering wheel, I gently trace the Audi logo with my fingertips. Being reminded just how different the boys and I are. Sometimes I forget our lives aren’t even on the same caliber.
“I used to have a model car just like this one. I kept it in my closet. Aaron got it for me after we went to a luxury car show in Boston. The show was only open during school hours, so we played hookie and went to look at all the fancy cars. He said he was going to collect them one day, and I believed him, even then. I wasn’t really into cars until that day, especially since Aaron wanted to take me and not one of his friends.”
Looking over at Dominik, I notice how intently he’s listening to me, his body turned toward me. I’m not sure why I’m sharing this with him. I guess the Audi triggered those memories.
“I saw this exact model and color in the show room and instantly fell in love. Aaron bought me the toy model as wewere leaving, and I kept it hidden in my closet because I didn’t want my parents seeing it and taking it away. It’s funny that you bought the exact same car, even down to the color.”
Dominik remains silent for a while. I begin to fiddle with the controls, getting to know the car before we go.
“That’s why I bought it,” he whispers.
I turn to face him, not sure I heard him correctly. “What?”
“I wanted to surround myself with things that reminded me of you.”
“Why?”
Dominik rests his elbow on the center console, casually grabbing a strand of my hair. He playfully twirls it around his finger before he looks up at me, jolting my breath.
“You know why, Zoe,” he says softly, right before his lips melt into mine.
I am so royally fucked, it’s not even funny.
“You wantedme to drive to the side of Madison Square Garden that seems to be in mid-demolition?” I say as I unbuckle my seatbelt and stare at Dominik’s stupid grin.
“You know, you’re the most impatient woman I have ever met.”
“And you’re the most confusing person I have ever met. Now, out with it, Lewis. Why are we here?”
“Will you just shut up for two seconds and get out of the car?”
I cross my arms and lean back into my seat. “Nope. Not until you tell me why we’re here.”
Dominik narrows his eyes and swings open his door. “Fine. Suit yourself.”
I watch him walk across and reach my door. I don’t get a chance to protest because he quickly pulls me out of the car. Next thing I know, he’s flinging me over his shoulder.
“Are you fucking insane? Put me down! You can’t do this to me every time I don’t listen to your demands.”
“I can do whatever the fuck I want. Especially when you’re being a brat.” He smacks my ass hard.
I try to push away using all my strength, strike him with my arm, but it’s all no use. He’s way too strong. Trying to fight against his tight grip is leaving me exhausted and ruining my hair. Despite his rough treatment, I decide to playfully pinch his ass cheek, expecting him to let go, but it just makes him laugh.
“The fact you think that would work on me is just beyond cute.”
“Fuck you.”
“Oh, please do. You know my favorite place to be is inside that pretty cunt of yours.”
“Dominik!” I screech in total shock, and it makes him burst into laughter.
He’s in a great mood tonight, laughing so much in such a short amount of time. I can’t remember when he last appeared so carefree and content.
