“Morgan,” I began as I took a step forward.

“Don’t, King.” She shook her head. “I can’t have you hold me right now. I’ll fall apart if you do, and I can’t fall apart right now.” She looked back at me with a watery smile. “You know it must have been fate that you were the one to find me. The one to take care of me.”

“It’s what a big brother does,” I finished for her. I threw my arm around her shoulders. “Come on, little sister.”

When we got back inside, we were ushered into church. I insisted Morgan and her mother come with us. This involved her; she deserved to know what was going on. I learned the hard way with Grace, not to keep the women in my life in the dark.

“King!”

“What?” I said, at the same time as the Sons of Hell president.

“Um, the other King,” Banks said, looking at me. He turned to his president and asked, “You both have the same name. It’s bound to get confusing.”

“So, how do we differentiate?” Romeo asked.

Mimic rolled his eyes, and Indie grinned.

“The two of you will have to use your birth names for now,” Bailey, King’s wife, said.

I raised a hand to get her attention. “That is my birth name.”

“Your birth name is Kingston,” Sal informed everyone with a grin.

“Nobody but Darcy calls me fucking Kingston,” I snapped.

“Well, while you’re here, get used to it,Kingston.” Bailey looked at her husband. “Continue, Callum.”

Callum Montclair smiled at his wife. And if I wasn’t mistaken, there was a gleam in his eye. “Thank you, Avonleigh.”

“Don’t, asshole!” Bailey flipped him the bird, spun on her heels, and walked out.

“You’ll be sleeping in your office tonight,Callum.” Scribe snickered.

“Why do you think I put a fucking couch in there?” Callum rolled his eyes as if Bailey’s outburst was a normal occurrence. “Let’s get started.”

Chapter Seventeen

Morgan

I sat in church, my mother on one side of me and my brother on the other. My father and Uncle Mac stood behind us. Guards that weren’t necessary inside these walls.

“Chasm isn’t coming,” my brother said, his voice cold.

There were so many questions left unanswered because I let my pride get in the way. I should have listened; let him explain before I kicked him out.

Like why didn’t he tell King he was alive?

Why didn’t he just tell me he wanted a divorce after I lost the baby? I would have understood. I knew he only married me because I was pregnant. But I loved him, so I took advantage of his need to be a better parent than his father was.

“Why was he here?” Gunner asked. “Why didn’t he stay the fuck dead?”

I winced at the anger in Gunner’s voice. He didn’t get angry often. Unless someone threatened Sarah. Jude hadn’t done that, but he did threaten his relationship with his wife.

Coming here and confronting Gunner was unnecessary and stupid. He could have just asked me about it.

“Chasm took over as president of the Little Rock Chapter. He was going through Steele’s office and found some files with women’s names on them. They were empty, so whatever information he had, Stone took with him when he left.”

“Morgan was one of those names,” Romeo explained. “We don’t know if they knew she was married to Chasm. We assumethey knew she was O’Malley’s daughter. And by extension, King’s sister.”
