I grab it, pulling it around me and settling against him. We stay like that for a moment, his breath evening, and I assume he’s fallen back asleep. He must have because he isn’t freaking out about being human. I turn in his arms to face him. His eyes peek open.

“Morning,” I whisper.

A soft smile forms on his lips before it turns into a frown. His eyes pop wide open.

“Morning?”

My smile widens, and I nod. “It’s morning.”

He sucks in a breath. “It’s morning.”

I can’t pull the smile from my face. The shock and excitement shining in his eyes is contagious.

His lips are on mine before I know what’s happening. It isn’t overly sexual, more of a celebration—a long, firm press of his lips against mine.

“Thank you,” he says, pulling me closer to him.

I settle in his arms and we fall back asleep.

When I wake up next, I’m alone on the floor, the blankets tangled all around me. I smile to myself as I listen to the three of them laughing in the kitchen.

They’re still here. All three of them. They’re still here. And maybe I want to be here too. Somehow, we can figure it out. I get up and go into the kitchen.

All three of them smile at me, and my cheeks burn.

“Morning,” I say.

They return it.

“Let me make you some pancakes,” Gus says. “Batter is already done.”

“Okay.”

I sit, and Rhett puts down a mug of coffee in front of me, made just the way I like.

“Thank you.” I smile up at him.

He kisses my head.

I meet Wade’s gaze across the table. He winks as he picks up his own mug to sip from.

A truck horn that I’d recognize anywhere sounds from outside.

“Rhett and I are going into town with Charlie,” Gus says over his shoulder.

“Do you need anything?” Rhett asks.

“He’s going into town again? We were just there.”

“Said he forgot something at the hardware store,” Rhett explains.

“Oh, okay. No, I’m good. Thank you.”

“I’ll meet you outside,” Rhett says to Gus, kissing me on the head one more time before heading out the door.

Gus puts the pancakes in front of me, kisses my lips, then hurries out the door too.

“Did you eat already?” I ask Wade.
