“He killed the prospects?”
She nodded. “All of them.”
Fuck.
Alasdair’s taunts came back to me then. He was smug and I hated it, but I especially hated it whenhe spoke about Shona…like he knew something we didn’t.
Kayleigh was being comforted by Morena at the bar. We always had two behind the bar…my concern had been what if she came in but…I knew she wouldn’t leave Kayleigh without help.
“Where is she?” I asked, getting up from the floor, the blood dripping over to the bar where I came to a stop as I looked at her. “Where is Shona?”
“She…she…wasn’t here.”
“What do you mean?”
“We were out of some stuff and she said she was going stir crazy, so she went to go get it.”
“Alone?”
My mind was about to break. She knew not to do that.
“Everyone was busy with the planning. She said it would only take five minutes.”
“How long ago did she go?” Ace asked her.
“Um, well…it would have been about an hour ago now.”
No, no, no,no!
Shona was gone…and they had her. White hot rage drifted across me, and I fought the urge to tear everything apart in my line of sight.
I felt a hand on the back of my neck pushing me out the door. Lorcan rounded on me then, his hands on my shoulders as he forced me to breathe in fresh air.
“You scream, you cry out, you yell…you get whatever the hell is bottled up inside you right now and we find a way to get to her…okay?” he said.
I couldn’t breathe, I felt like the entire world was shifting and I was standing still.
My chest ached with an intensity I could hardly fathom. “Do it. Scream…get it out. We need your head clear.”
I fell to my knees and let out a roar of agony, the birds from the trees in the woods surrounding our compound flew away as I let the pain of losing her again release from my body until I slumped onto the ground.
“We’ll get her back,” Lorcan knelt beside me. “We haveresources.”
“Lorcan…you know my father. If he has her…she’s already dead.”
Shona
The butcher was busy today. I’d been waiting in line for over fifteen minutes before I got to the counter, only to see the piece of scotch fillet I’d been eyeing off for the last five minutes had been taken by the guy in front of me.
Oh that’s just perfect.
I gave my order over minus the steak, and waited for them to package it up. Checking my watch, I saw that I was already gone way past the time I told them I would be gone. I hoped Savage wasn’t awake yet. He’d be so pissed that I left without an escort, but I wasn’t going to bother one of the prospects for a five minute outing.
I tapped my foot impatiently as I waited for the parcels to be presented to me. The longer I was here, the more time it gave Savage to wake up. I realised how nervous I was…I knew he’d be mad…but they needed food. There were more people staying at the clubhouse now, so the food had been depleted faster than I thought it would.
Shoving the fears out of my mind, I realised I was obsessing over something so minor. I was going to be fine, and he would see that. I paid for the food and headed through the throng of people waiting behind me, and out the door. I was almost to my car when someone stepped out in front of me. Backing up, I chuckled to myself for being so focused on my keys and looked up to apologise. My smile dropped immediately when I looked into the face of…Savage…only he was older.
“Uh…sorry.”
