We got to our bikes and shared one of our looks that said we needed to talk outside the compound walls. The guy from inside the clubhouse came down to us, running to catch up with us.
“Wait up,” I said to Viper.
“You guys know Shona, don’t you?” he asked us. My chest tightened. If he told me he was her new man, I was going to absolutely kill him. I wouldn’t care about the pact, I would stab him to death where he stood.
“We do.”
“Do you love her?” he asked, aiming his question at me. I could feel the rage building. Viper, sensing my shifting anger, put his hand on my chest.
“Him more than me, but yes.”
He looked at me. “Look, if you love her, you need to take her away from here. She’s not safe.”
“What are you talking about? She came here. That’s her dad, isn’t it?”
“She hasn’t told you about her past then?” he asked. I hated shaking my head. I hated that this was a secret between us. I’d told her shit I never told anyone. “Of course she hasn’t. Fuck…she’s always been so fucking secretive, even when we were kids. Look, she only barely survived last time, and only because she ran off with Zach. If you truly want her to live, or be happy, or whatever it is she is to you, I need you to take her with you.”
“Why?” I asked.
“The last time she was here, she was on the verge of beinggivento one of my father’s enforcers. It was to ensure his loyalty. Before that, he had been auctioning off her virginity…she was fourteen, by the way. She’s not safe, no matter what she thinks. Youhaveto take her.”
My blood was boiling. “Why would she come back here?”
“Our little sister, Darby, called her. I can handle her, I’m working on getting her away, but Shona, she said she will take her place. I can’t watch both of them.”
“He will kill you for telling us this,” Viper said.
“I’ve always had a death wish, being born to this family,” he shrugged. “As long as my sisters are safe, I honestly don’t care.”
“How? This place is full of people. How can we get to her?” I asked him.
“I’ll take you around back as if I’m making a deal with you,” he said. “They won’t suspect a thing. You sneak in the back door and go to the room she’s in. Make sure she doesn’t argue. Eyes will be on her.”
“How exactly do you think I can do that?” I spat. "You know what she’s like, clearly.”
He smirked. “I daresay you know a way to silence her.”
I nodded quickly and got off my bike. Her safety was paramount.
We walked behind him to the side of the clubhouse. There were eyes on us, but the guy didn’t seem to care. He pulled out a package from his pocket and pulled us further down the side and out of sight. He motioned for the door near us and Viper stayed with him to conduct the “deal”. This could be a trap but I saw the way he was pleading with me with those identical eyes that Shona had. I’d nevermet him, but he looked familiar because of those eyes.
I snuck up to the clubhouse and opened the door, heading down a hallway to the third door which he’d told me she would be behind. The door was unlocked - nothing new there - and I snuck in, closing it behind me.
Turning, I looked over at Shona aiming a pistol at my face. She lowered it, and I saw her hand shake as she held it at her side.
“You’re still here,” she said. “What are you doing with my Dad? You can’t get into business with him. He’s a bad guy, Savage.”
I closed the distance between us, wanting to pull her to me and tell her I was mad that she hadn’t told me who she was or where she was going, or even why, but we didn’t have time.
“You need to come with me.”
“What? Savage, I can’t. I wish I could explain why.”
“Your brother told me.”
“Fucking Keefe. He knows why I came here. I have to-”
“Your sister, right?”
