Hid away, really.
The question gnawed at me.
I had found Makari.
But what would I do if I became pregnant again?
I twisted the ring on my finger. The pale yellow diamond surrounded by the smaller white ones. The slim gold band that was meaningless.
One day later he came.
Handed me an envelope.
I didn’t need to read the contents. His smirk said it all.
Property of Vadim.
Chapter 47
Vadim
Valentin joined us now that most of the security threats had been eliminated. He tapped his cards on the table before he spoke.
“Was there any substance to Sergei’s claim?” he asked.
“Shouldn’t you know? You’re the accountant,” Konstantin said, rolling his eyes.
I shook my head.
“Papa paid him out of his personal wealth. Without that generosity Sergei would never have entered the electricity market, let alone built a business from it,” I said, checking my phone.
“Besides, it was before my time,” Valentin said, tossing a piece of popcorn at Konstantin’s head.“How old do you think I am?”
“I heard you’re not looking at other women these days,” Ruslan drawled.
My eyes flicked up from my cards.
“Bogdan.” I reached for my cigar.“Shoot him between the eyes if he mentions women again.”
Bogdan nodded from his position by the door with the serene expression of a man who had been given clearer instructions.
“What did I miss?” Valentin asked, looking between us.
Konstantin glanced at me. I looked back at him. The silent dare delivered and received.
He sighed.
“I’ll message you later.”
Mudak.
“I miss Tau’s silent glares,” Ruslan said, with the timing of a man who understood exactly when to change a subject.“When is he back?”
I shrugged and checked my phone again.
She was back to ignoring my messages.
“Are you waiting on someone to get back to you?” my brother asked, with the particular innocence of a man who knew exactly what he was doing.
