Caden smirks, full of menace and evil intent. “Unfortunately, there’s absolutely nothing you can do about that.”
Elodie gets a smug look on her face and she crosses her arms. “Oh yeah?”
Alf goes completely still beside me. He still won’t look at anyone but Elodie.
Caden raises his head, looks down his nose at her. “Yes. Or is there something I should know? Do you have a coat hanger ready or something?”
She just smirks, smug and proud, and devious. Holy shit.
This irks him, a darkness coming into his eyes that’s full of contempt. He inches towards her, she backs away.
“Don’t you fucking touch me.”
Caden grabs her by the arm and yanks her forward. She whacks his chest, slaps his face, but he’s a brick wall. “What are you planning, Elodie?”
She pushes roughly against his chest, swearing at him. “Don’t worry your pretty little head about that,Master.”
Cade clenches his jaw, lips pulling back. It’s taking everything in him not to explode. Finally, he shoves her away. “Get out of my sight.”
She does without a blink, dashing out of the room.
Cade slumps back down in his seat, rubbing his eyes. “I can’t do this shit. I cannot go through this again and again.”
Me and Alf remain silent. For once, I’m lost for words.
“What the fuck was she even talking about? You think she’s on some sort of birth control?” He looks expectedly at us, like we have the damn answers.
Alf’s face is strained, his leg back to bouncing vigorously under the table.
“She said she’d kill herself,” Cade says under his breath, drumming his fingers on the table. “In the woods. She said if I got her pregnant, she’d kill herself. Do you think she really would?”
Alfie leans forward, elbows on the table, head in his hands.
Me and Cade exchange a confused look.
“Alf?” Caden says.
Alf throws his hands up. “It’s not my fault, alright?” He whips his head up and points an accusatory finger at Cade. “You fucked her up so much last night.”
Caden’s face goes cold. “What are you talking about?”
Alf sighs, shakes his head. “She asked me to get her the pill.”
I puff out my cheeks, look down at my plate, knowing this is way past my tension-cutting abilities.
“She what?” Cade says, deathly calm. “Did you give it to her?”
“Not yet.”
“And are you going to?”
Alf squares his shoulders, legs falling still again. “Yes, I am. Higgins had someone deliver it last night.”
Caden licks his teeth, nods slightly. “I see. Choosing her over me. Doing what she wants you to do. Told you she’s got you wrapped around her finger.”
Alfie shoots to his feet, knocking the huge table forward an inch. “No, Caden. It’s nothing to do with that. You two are not ready to have a child. Having a child shouldn’t be some fucked-up way to control someone. It’s not a weapon. It’s a fucking human being. A helpless, innocent little thing. You think I’m going to let you create one of those things in the relationshipyou two have now? That kid wouldn’t stand a chance of a normal life.”
I curl my lips down. He has a point.
