I shrug. “It’s fine. I know he’s joking.”
We lay there wrapped up in each other for several minutes until I start to drift off. As everything gets fuzzy and the darkness settles over me, I think I hear Nick say through the fog of impending sleep, “When I do it, you’ll know I’m not joking.”
He Looks Like He Knows What He's Doing
Tina
Nick crawled out ofbed early this morning to make it to a training session with one of his fighters, but not before making me come again with his mouth and fingers. He left me so thoroughly wrung out, I couldn’t keep my eyes open long enough to say goodbye before falling back to sleep with a giant satisfied smile on my face. A few hours later, after I’d finally gotten myself up and ready for another day of work, he started texting me.
When the first message comes through, I grin wider than I have in years.
Nick
Happy last day of catering. What are we doing to celebrate?
Tina
I’m bringing your food over, then I’m coming straight back to work. I don’t know what you’re doing.
Nick
Booooo. That doesn’t sound like much fun.
Tina
I have work to do.
Nick
Of course. But we can still celebrate. Do you ever take a day off?
Tina
Not really. I own my own business. I can’t afford days off.
Nick
Can Chloe cover? Maybe I can send someone over to help. I think Demetrius knows his way around a kitchen well enough to follow orders.
Tina
Chloe is busy tonight. And if I let Demetrius in my kitchen, he’ll eat all the cheese. I’ll have to roll him out of here and be forced to close up shop.
Nick
The man loves his cheese.
Tina
More than anyone I know. And that’s saying something, because my family literally thanks the lord for cheese when they say grace.
Nick
Maybe Demetrius is a long-lost relative of yours? It would explain the cheese thing.
Tina
Maybe. But how much weirder would that make the joke proposals?
