Denise bursts into tears, pulling Gran in for another hug. “I wish my family was like you, instead of the selfish, stuck-up assholes they are. You’ve met them, I’m sure. They have a house here at the lake too. How else would you know all the neighbours out here are stuck-up dickwads?”

“Well now, honey, don’t cry. Iamyour family now. And there’s no one more like me than me,” Gran says with a chuckle while she pats Denise’s hair. “The closest you can get, other than me, is Gladys.”

“And I’m your family now too,” Gladys says through tears, wrapping her arms around both Denise and Gran. “Even if you’ve shattered my dreams of seeing Ryder’s dick by marrying him and making him your forever penis.”

Everyone around us laughs. Except me. I’m just glad Gladys is finally going to give up her quest to see my dick. I have plans for it for the next 40 years or so, and those plans only involve Denise.

“Yes, Gladys,” Denise says, stepping out of the hug and back next to me, where I wrap my arm around her. “That was a pretty integral part of the deal, I’m afraid. You’ll just have to set your sights on someone else’s dick. Maybe Aiden?”

“Whoa, hold on a minute.” Aiden protests. “I have all I can handle with Gran showing me her lap dance moves. I don’t need Gladys trying to get into my pants now, too.”

“I don’t want to get in them, Aiden,” Gladys clarifies. “I want toseewhat’s in them. Just need to know if it lives up to all the hype. But it can’t be Aiden anyway. I haven’t heard any hype about his trouser snake at all.”

Aiden just shakes his head, wandering off to find someone else to talk to. The guy may be the oldest in the band but that doesn’t mean he’s interested in octogenarians. Not that I’ve ever seen him really interested in anyone. He had a few hook-ups like the rest of us, but nothing that ever came close to serious. He spends all of his spare time volunteering with the domestic violence shelters, so it’s not like he’d have time to date, anyway. I wonder what was up with that cop earlier, though?

“Want me to show you the house?” I whisper in Denise’s ear as I wrap my arms around her from behind. She’s been trying unsuccessfully to hide how tired she is, but the yawns are becoming too big to hide now. This woman has had a long day, and I need to take her to bed, to sleep this time. Not that I wouldn’t rather make love to my wife, but she looks like she wouldn’t last long enough to enjoy it.

“I would love that,” she whispers, turning in my arms to kiss me. “I don’t know how much longer I can keep my eyes open.”

I take her hand and lead her up the stairs to the porch.

“Everyone,” I yell. “Thank you so much for coming tonight. And thank you for putting everything together. Denise and I have had a very long day, as I know some of you have as well, so we are going in now. I need to get my new wife to bed.”

We turn as one, and go into the house to the soundtrack of our friends’ and relatives’ cheers and whistles. I guess Gran and Gladys aren’t the only pervy ones of the bunch. I’m not all that surprised, really. There’s a reason we all like each other, after all.

“Come on, babe. Let me give you the lowdown on the house while I show you to our bedroom.” I take Denise’s hand and pull her up the stairs behind me. “There are two bedrooms, plus the master up here on the second level. Our bedroom has a master bathroom, plus there’s a full bath and a half bath in the hallway for the other rooms to share. There are also two bedrooms, plus another full bath and another half bath downstairs on the main level.”

We turn right at the top of the stairs, and I open the door that leads to the master suite. One of the renovations I had done recently is a wall of windows overlooking the lake, plus a small, private balcony, just for the master suite.

“This is beautiful, Ryder,” Denise says, taking in the view of lights across the lake. During the daytime you can’t see any other houses from here but at night their lights twinkle across the water, creating an image that appears to mirror the stars. “Do we really get to live here?”

“Only if you want to,” I say, wrapping my arms around her and enjoying the view. “We can live anywhere you like. As long as we’re together, the rest is just details.”
