Derek stands there, looking like he’s trying to think of something to say.
“Alright, man. You’ve had your say. Alex has said she’s done with you, so it’s time for you to move along.” I’ve almost got the door closed when Derek pushes it hard, and somehow he hits Alex in the face with it.
“Are you ok, baby?”
She looks a little dazed, but she nods her head at me.
“I didn’t mean to-”
“Shut up.” I bite out. “You’re done here.” I step out into the hallway and grab him by his shirt. “Let me show you out.”
I drag Derek down to the main doors, where we happen to run into Devon and Ryder.
“What do we have here?” Ryder asks. “Taking out the trash?”
“Hey guys, let me introduce you to Derek. He thought he would come by today to see why Alex was leaving him for me, and to win her back.” I throw Derek onto the sidewalk in front of Devon. “And then he tried to push the door open as I was closing it, and it hit Alex in the face, so I decided it was time for him to leave.”
“Looks like that plan worked out real well for him.” Devon laughs. “Need some help?”
Derek cowers on the ground, looking up at the three of us as we have this conversation around him.
“Yeah, that would actually be great. I need to get back to Alex. I just brought her breakfast from the diner up the street when this asshole showed up.”
“No problem Connor, we’ll take care of this and then come back.” Ryder gives Derek an evil look. “I love taking out this kind of trash.”
I turn around just as I’m about to head back into the building. “Oh, don’t come back at least this afternoon. I’m planning to keep Alex occupied for a few hours after we’ve finished our breakfast.” I give Derek a little wink. “You guys can come back and move all her stuff to my place later.”
I walk away and go back upstairs. Alex left the door unlocked for me, so I go right in. I walk straight over to where she’s sitting and grab her face in my hands, checking to see if there’s any damage from where the door hit her. Luckily for Derek, it didn’t leave a mark.
“Is everything ok?” she asks me. I notice she’s already halfway through her breakfast and raise an eyebrow at her. “Sorry,” she says with a fresh mouthful. “I was starving and couldn’t wait.”
I chuckle and sit down beside her, grabbing my breakfast from the bag. “That’s fine, babe. That’s why I went and got breakfast. I knew you’d be hungry after the last few days. A diet of straight whiskey isn’t very nutritious.”
She nods while stuffing a big bite of pancakes into her mouth. “You ain’t kidding.”
“I ran into Devon and Ryder outside. They are dealing with Derek. He won’t bother you anymore.” I look at her out of the corner of my eye to gauge her reaction.
“They’re not going to do anything that will get them in trouble, are they?” God, this woman is amazing. I love that her first thought is concern for Devon and Ryder.
“No babe, nothing like that.” I lean back. “They’ll come back in a few hours to help move your stuff back to my place.”
Her head jerks up in surprise. “Back to your place? I can’t do any cooking for at least six weeks, Connor. I won’t be much use. Plus, you’ll need the pool house for whoever Denise hires.” She waves her sparkly cast at me to remind me why she can’t cook.
I take her fork and set it down. Cupping her cheek with one hand, I look deeply into her eyes. “I’m not asking you to come cook for me, Alex. I want you to move in with me. Livewithme. As my girlfriend, not as an employee.”
“I… wow… what?” she’s stunned speechless.
“We’ve wasted so many years already, I don’t want to waste any more time. I know it’s fast, but I meant it when I said that you’re it for me. I know that you’re the only one I’ll ever want.” Shit, why did I ask this already. She’s probably freaking out. We’ve been together for days and there’s already been a crisis. Her hand is broken because of me. Why would she want to chain herself to me like this?
“Yes.” She looks up at me through her eyelashes. “I will move in with you.”
Chapter 56
Connor - Finally Mine
“Yes?” I can hardly believe it, she’s actually going to move in with me. After the shit show the other night, she’s able to forgive me and move on. “You are the most amazing person I’ve ever met, Alex. I feel horrible over what happened last night.”
“You have no reason to feel bad, Connor.” She leans closer and hugs me tightly. “I’m confident that you wouldn’t have done anything with her. She drugged you. She’s the one who did something wrong.”
