Cole started and adjusted the water in the shower before he pulled off her clothes and then his own.He waited until she put on a cap to keep her hair from getting wet, then pulled her in after him.He quickly washed her and then himself, dried them both, and carried her into the bedroom.
The rest of the day and night, he spent loving her, only stopping to feed her dinner. It was deep into the night when he finally let her sleep.
Chapter Thirteen
Victoria awoke to seeCole pull up the jeans he’d worn the day before.A smile crept across her face when he grimaced at the dirt-encrusted fabric. She was almost tempted to ask him to bring some clothes to keep at her house but didn’t want to push him into anything.
They had been having sex for a few months, but it never went further than that.He never took her out on a date, talked about a future, or even showed her his place. That had started to really bother her, and she hadn’t been able to come up with the courage to ask why.
Victoria sat up, pulled the sheet, and tucked it under her arms.
Cole caught the movement and turned as he was sitting on the side of the bed, pulling on his boots.
He reached up and cupped the side of her face.“Good morning, baby.”
Victoria cleared her throat.“Good morning.”
“Why don’t you lie back down and get some more rest?I kept you up pretty late last night.”
She closed her eyes and rubbed her cheek against his palm.“Will you be taking a nap today or going back to bed when you get home?”
Cole snorted.“I haven’t taken a nap since I was two, and the longest I’ve ever slept in the morning was seven.I’ve got a ranch to run.I don’t have time for that.”
“So why should I?”
Her simple words hit him hard for some reason he couldn’t explain. She could tell he was caught off guard, and he didn’t know what to say.
“Cole?”
“You know how I feel about you trying to do some of the work.”
She nodded.
“Something’s got to be done about the situation before you get hurt.”
“Like what?”she asked, a little hopeful he’d want to take the next step in their relationship.
