He looks back at me, his eyes colder than ice and burning all at once.
“Away from here.”
A beat.
“And fast.”
My pulse kicks. My mind spins.
This is it.
The moment everything turns.
He steps closer, close enough that I can feel the heat radiating off him, the tension trembling beneath his skin.
“It’s time to go, Hazel.”
My breath catches.
My hands shake.
But I nod.
“Okay,” I whisper. “Let’s go.”
CHAPTER THIRTEEN
NIGHT SHIFT
THE WHISPERING KILLER
Obsession. Pain. Suffering.
Something the world knows too much of now.
I took them out of the equation. I took the problem I was working on fixing. I never wanted to be like this.I had to be like this.
The world made me this way.
I grin, knowing the world is almost a better place because I did it. I took the problem out. I made sure they knew they were the cause of all of this. There is no one to blame but themselves.
I walk up to the male, his face swollen and battered. He deserved all of this. It’s his fault I had to do this. They pushed my hand in the matter. I don’t care what comes of all of this, but I need them to know who’s the one on top.
I hear the female whimpering, “P-please don’t hurt us…” Her voice shakes as she watches me walk toward the male. “Please! A—” I slam my palm over her mouth, gripping her throat.
“You did this to me; don’t you understand that?” I growl out to the female. My mind is racing with the fact I need to kill them. I need them to disappear forever.
“Just let us go. We won’t say anything. This will be our secret. I promise this will be the last you’ll ever—ever see of us,” the male tries, and fails, to sound confident.
“That’s not how this works. You did some bad, terrible things, and now you have to face the consequences of your actions. Life’s a bitch, isn’t it?”
He growls and spits at me in response, muttering some words, but we can’t have that. My hand raises and I hit him, rendering him unconscious. The boy has spunk. I’ll give him that.
“Please! Please stop!” the girl screams through her tears. They’re getting what they deserve. This is what I do.
Not even justifying her plea with a response, I leave the room with a grin, knowing I’m making the world a better place. I have a job to do, and I know exactly what needs to be done. I will stop at nothing to make sure the world is a better place.
I am the only one who can do this.
