Mine. Nope, I'm still not used to it.

I look back at Keola, he’s staked his “claim” on me like it would help. Or so he says.

He sighs, having a hard time finding his words, “I misspoke.”

I let out a single laugh, his eyes glaring, my lips pressing into a tight line.

He misspoke, no, someone brought out a “law” and was challenged.

“I misspoke. It’s not easy to trust someone. We never meant to bring you into this mess, because it’s not yours to clean up,” he says.

“Well, it looks like it wasn’t yours either, so here we are.” I defend. I exhale, “Look, I just want to bring him home and if that means removing certain obstacles, I call it a win win.” I lean back in the chair.

“Little vengeful aren’t we?” Few snickers surrounded the room and a few nods were given. Rawling speaks up, “Put it to a vote then, those in favor of bringing the kid home, raise of hands.”

A wave of hands go up, including Tessa’s but Jackson pulls it back down, throwing her a wink.

“Well it’s unanimous,” Rawlings booms.

And just like that everyone starts to get up, but nothing is resolved or planned.

“Hold on,” I say, everyone turning in their tracks. “Y’all just going to leave? What about planning? What about giving orders?”

Rawlings smirk, I look around and all the other smug men smirk. I’m missing something.

“Angel, this isn’t our first rodeo,” Keola laughs, I cross my arms in front of my chest, my hips tossed to the side. “That means shit.” I spit out, then stepped towards Keola, his gaze towering over me.

“It means if we trust you, trust us.”

“Trust means communication,” I fire back.

“It means little one, that Joaquin is going to run surveillance and security. Memphis and D.R are going to recon over at the docks for any incoming. We have history with the Falcons. The prospects will be surveying the kid’s house. Coda and a few other members will be watching over the foundation, since that seems to be the focal point. Jackson and I will look into their trade business, and Keola will be in charge of you and teaching you how to protect yourself.”

Okay, so they have been in this before. Wait.

“Protect myself? I know how to protect myself,” I point out.

“Charlotte, a taser isn't going to work all the time.” Keola snickers.Asshole.

“Personally, I prefer my knives,” Tessa says, a little too smoothly.

The curl of Jackson’s lips are sinful as he looks lustfully at Tessa. “Deadly and beautiful.”

“Grump, you might want to take her to the barn,” Tessa winks at me.

I have no idea what the barn means or where, but something in me tells me to expect the unexpected.

Chapter 26

Keola

Charlotteislikeadeer in headlights with the mention of the barn. Her curious mind begins to spin and the possibilities of what I want are endless.

Time to play and teach.

Then a vision of her in a school uniform circles my mind, and suddenly the hunger in me grows.

I step towards her, her warm sugary scent seeps into me.
