Her curled smile scares some of us, “I knew you’d see it my way.”

“I used a code phrase with the kids to tell them that it was safe to talk to me,” Cedric adds on.

“Which is,” Topaz says, rolling her hands.

“Teach wants her apple.” He says.

They all throw confusing looks, but I understood the meaning behind it.

“Alrighty, just need the kids’ information. And I’ll be on my way,” she says.

“One small problem, I don’t have the addresses,” Cedric admits.

“That’s fine. I’ll just hack into Tessa’s system and grab them off the client profiles.” Joaquin says.

Loud voices shout, “No!” Jackson and Cedric say.

“Why the fuck not?” Joaquin angrily asks.

“Because the last time we did that, we screwed up the system and it sent a red flag with Teresa’s higher ups. Which ultimately almost screwed us over!” Jackson reminds him.

Joaquin sinks back down in the chair.

“Means someone is going to have to tell the women,” D.R says.

“Guess this means no in person meeting,” Memphis says.

Topaz starts laughing maniacally, “Y’all are so afraid of them, and I love it.”

“Says the woman that will help her bury my body if I do something stupid,” Jackson whines a moment.

She just winks at Jackson, walking away from everything. I know the next phone call isn’t going to be pleasant.

Chapter 41

Lottie

“I’malreadyhalfwaytothe office. I’ll just meet you there,” I tell grump ass over the phone. They decided not to have a meeting, so I’m already pissed but I’ll get over it.

I’m just happy to hear that they’ll help the families, keeping some of them safe. But hopefully with the names that Cedric gave, half of them being our students and a couple of those are in the surrounding district. I enlisted Brayden, he would get back with me.

“Angel, you could have waited.”

“And y’all could have had a meeting with us. Guess you’ll have to deal with it,” I hang up on him.I’ll pay for that later.

“Did you just hang up on him?” Finn asks me.

“He’s being unreasonable,” I defend myself.

Finn rolls his eyes, scrolling through his phone, I’m guessing reading comics or something. “You alright?”

He clicks his phone off, the leather seat squeaks as he turns, I can’t see him, but I know his attention is on me. He stays quiet, and I can’t handle him being quiet anytime. “Seriously. I feel crappy and I’m still not okay with bringing this into your life.” The nerves start to get to me.

“Lottie, calm down,” he simply says. I’m sorry, did I hear my own kid tell me to calm down. Before I can say anything, he continues, “I’m okay. Was I confused? Sure. But when Keola says that we’ll be okay, I have to trust him.”

“Thought you hated him?”

“Nah. I think I’ve gotten used to him. He’s cool. I guess. But I like Topaz, you know the one with the blue hair? She’s nice! And Memphis, he’s fun.”
