We walk toward the main house where we were invited to relax and have a family meal before meeting with Bones tomorrow to begin planning.

Kill is concerned about the Bonetti brothers helping because he figures they’ll want some payback, and he is probably right. Mafia families don’t do things out of the kindness of their hearts. We don’t have much choice if they are coming after Heather. Maybe none of us survive April fifteenth, but she will.

“We need to leave the money somewhere safe so she can get to it if things go badly.”

I nod but eventually say, “One of us has to live—for her. She’s going to fall apart, and someone needs to be there to pick up the pieces.”

We stop walking near the rose garden. Carter closes his eyes as he takes a deep cleansing breath.

“Maybe we all live. Wouldn’t that be something?”

I’m quick to respond.

“Do you really believe that will be the outcome?”

He feigns laughter as he shakes his head.

“No. More like forced optimism.”

We walk up the steps to their porch and I make a fist to knock when the door swings open. Bianca smiles with a welcoming expression before looking around us and is instantly disappointed.

“Killian and Heather will be here shortly. She wanted to take a shower before dinner.”

Brushing the hair out of her face, she smiles again.

“Of course. Please come in. Psycho, Raven and Reaper are in the great room. Can I get you a drink?”

I nod politely and say, “Whiskey neat, please.”

“Two please.” Carter says as we walk toward the other men and take a seat on the sofa across from them. We didn’t know who would be here and we aren’t exactly comfortable as we both notice Psycho spinning a knife between his fingers. Is it meant as a threat? Hell if I know. These brothers may be related to us, but I’m still not sure it’s a good thing.

Bianca comes back with our drinks and sets them on the coffee table in front of us as we thank her for her hospitality. She brought a third for Killian, and she guessed right. We all prefer whiskey.

Raven nods to us as she takes a seat beside him, and he wraps his arm around her, pulling her in closer, and kisses her on her left temple. It’s still strange to me that they met in an asylum, but they seem happy with each other.

Reaper leans forward and tilts his head like he’s trying to figure out a mystery. It’s unnerving, but I wait to see if he’s going to say anything.

“Are you upset that your father is dead?”

“No,” I respond as Carter says, “Yes,” shocking the hell out of me.

Reaper stares at my brother, his eyes go from dark to nearly black as he sits with a clenched jaw.

“Let me explain. Am I upset he’s dead? No. Do I wish I had been given the opportunity to torture him and watch him choke out his final fucking breath? Yes. Very much. Someone beat me to the punch. I’m disappointed, but not upset. I would like to meet her if you’re comfortable with it. She must be a remarkable woman.”

His eyes lighten at the mere mention of his woman, and he grins.

“She sure is. The women will be here soon. They went shopping.”

I don’t keep my gaze off Psycho for very long as he continues twirling the damn knife. If he tries anything, I’ll protect my family with everything I have. We may be related, but my brothers and my girl come first.

“It’s a weird fixation, Knox. The way a baby boy plays with his damn penis. It’s his favorite toy.”

Reaper says while laughing.

“Fuck off, dick.” Psycho retorts followed by, “I’ll fucking stab you.”

Bianca rolls her eyes as if she has heard it all before.
