“No.”
Reaching into his pocket, he pulls out a pill bottle.
Handing it to me, he says, “Take one for pain every six hours as needed. Mr. Bonetti can call me if you need anything further.”
I thank him although I have no idea who he was referring to because there are so many Bonetti men.
Bones taps on the door frame and enters, going straight to Killian.
“You can stay here until the fight. It’s secure. I’ll have a guard outside twenty-four/seven. My men will be set up atthe warehouse twenty-four hours prior to the fight. Three full sweeps will be done before that.”
He cups Killian's shoulder, the first sign of compassion I’ve seen from him.
“For what it’s worth, I hope you win the fight.”
He glances at me and then back to Bones.
“Thank you. I will because I don’t have a choice. I’m not only fighting for my life but my entire family’s.”
CHAPTER SIXTY-EIGHT
KILLIAN
One Week Later…
Heather has beenan emotional mess all day. Now that we are getting ready to leave for the fight, it’s only getting worse.
“Killer, look at me.”
She continues staring at her feet as more tears fall.
Lifting her chin, her eyes stare into mine as she trembles slightly.
“I need you to stay strong for me. Have faith in me. Believe in me, because tonight you’re going to watch me kill a man that hurt you. He took your child from you. Took away your ability to conceive. That’s my motivation—to make him suffer. You’re going to stay with my brothers so I’m not distracted. Raven and Psycho will be behind you. Reaper and Kage will be in front of you. Bones will be watching everything. You’ll be safe, and that means I can focus on what I need to do.”
She nods and wraps her arms around me.
“Her name would’ve been Hayley. I’ve always wanted to hurt him for taking her from me. Thank you for doing it for me.”
I wink at her and admit, “I’d do anything for you, baby.”
My brothers are worried too, but at least they’re quiet about it as we walk out to the car. Bones’ driver nods to us as we get in the back.
Knox and Carter have instructions to get her out quickly and safely if I lose, but I’m not going to lose. I can’t.
We pull up to the back entrance of the warehouse and Heather's fingers tremble against mine. Reaching into my pocket, I pull out the charm I asked Raven to get for me. I grab Heather’s wrist as she stares at me, emotion filling her eyes. I attach the red and black boxing glove to her bracelet.
“Killian.” She gasps as she stares down at her wrist, running her finger over my name on the glove.
“I love this. Thank you.”
Her smile spreads from ear to ear, and if I had one last moment with her, this is what I would want it to be.
“All my men are represented. If-”
I interrupt her because I can’t even entertain the idea of ‘if’ right now.
“I know you like beautiful goodbyes, baby, but don’t. No goodbyes.”
