Jared was quiet and they all turned to look at him.
“We’re setting up a safehouse across the street from the house. Don’t worry, we’re being quiet,” Ammo said. “But we figure this guy is in Chicago at the moment anyway.”
Eli and Ammo had checked out the address she’d been given by Drews for the interview. The house had been abandoned, but it looked like someone had lived there recently. Food had been left in the cupboards. And an interesting symbol had been found carved into a closet door. But that symbol could be meaningless. No one knew if it was put there by the people that were last there or not.
So they had to do something to draw this guy out.
She’d prefer they just use her because she didn’t like the idea of Honey being in danger.
But this could work.
“You’ll protect Honey?” she asked worriedly.
“Babe, I can protect myself. I’m one badass MF,” Honey replied.
“We’ll keep her safe. Are we all agreed?” Zander asked.
North looked like he wanted to argue, but he didn’t say anything.
“We’re in agreement,” Jared said. “But nothing better happen to Angie or Honey. Nothing.”

Jared fucking hated this.
He didn’t like being tucked away somewhere safe while other people were putting themselves at risk. The only reason he’d agreed to wait at Zander’s compound was because this is where Angie was.
And he wanted to be wherever she was to keep her safe.
North was in the safehouse across the street from the house she’d lived in with Zander and Eli.
Miles and Keira were here with him and Angie while the rest of the team was scattered around, waiting for something to happen. This was their second night at it and so far, nothing.
North had escorted Angie to Colorado Springs. And she and Honey had switched places in a public bathroom in the airport. That had been the scariest part of the plan. He’d come separately with some of his men who were staying in a hotel on the outskirts of town.
While he had to sit here and wait and watch.
It fucking killed him.
He stared into the camera feeds that were displayed on several TV monitors attached to the wall.
“The waiting game sucks, huh?” Miles said, handing him a cup of coffee.
“I’ve never been one to sit back and wait,” he admitted.
“No, I figured you wouldn’t be. And a good leader doesn’t let others do what he’s not willing to do himself. Zander taught me that. But in this case, you’re helping guard Keira and Angie. Which is kind of the most important job of all.”
Jared gave him a wry grin of acknowledgment and tried to settle in on the couch with his coffee.
“Has anything happened?” Angie asked, walking into the room and sitting next to him.
“No, baby.” He kissed the top of her head. “It’s nearly time for you to go to bed.”
“I’m not going to bed until Zander is back,” Keira announced as she walked in and sat on an armchair. She rubbed her belly which had grown rounder.
“I’m not going to bed until North is back. I know I fell asleep last night but I was exhausted. Tonight, I’m waiting up.” Angie nodded.
“Me too,” Keira said.
