I shrugged. “I guess so.” I felt weird having the money… especially since some of it had been used to buyme.

“The District Attorney has to press charges now,” Henry said. “They can’t ignore this.” He had sent all the information Gray dug up to the DA, but they had been reluctant to press charges. Henry couldn’t believe it, but having omega abuse ignored by the government was normal to me, even with a new government who promised to do better.

Liam pressed a kiss to my shoulder. “How’re you feeling, sweetheart?”

I put my phone down and took a deep breath. “I’m okay.”

“You don’t have to be, love,” Gray murmured. His arms were firm and strong around me as he pulled me closer to his chest. His scent washed over me, and I ran my nose down the column of his throat.

Liam took my hand, wearing an expression that told me he was about to make me talk about myfeelings.

“Can we go to the beach?” I asked quickly. Liam frowned, and I knew he saw straight through me. “I just… I just want to go swimming.”

“Come here,” Bear said. He pulled me out of Gray’s lap, and I wrapped my arms and legs around him.

“Let’s go swimming, baby,” he said.

“Thank you,” I whispered. I knew I was avoiding things again, but I didn’t have the words for what I was feeling right now. I needed to get lost in the water.

The shrill soundof a phone jolted me from sleep.

“What’s going on?” I said sleepily, burying my face in Gray’s chest.

“It’s your phone,” Bear groaned, rolling over towards the nightstand. I must have forgotten to silence it since I hardly ever got calls.

“It’s Alex.” Bear’s voice was a snarl.

I blinked into the dark room. “Wait, let me take it,” I said, holding out my hand. I had no idea why my uncle would be calling me, but I wanted to know what he had to say for himself.

“You don’t have to talk to them,” Gray said, his voice muffled by the pillow.

The phone stopped ringing.

“Maybe they’ll leave a voicemail,” Bear said. “Fuck, never mind. They’re calling again.”

I sat up, holding out my hand. Bear reluctantly gave me my cell.

“Put it on speakerphone.” Gray sat up and turned on the bedside lamp. I glanced over and saw Henry and Liam hadwoken up, too. Liam slowly pushed himself to a seated position, running his hand through his hair.

I took a deep breath and answered the call.

“Westin.” Alex’s voice rang through the speaker. Just hearing his voice made my heart start pounding. This man hired someone to assault me. He tried tosellme.

“What do you want?” I asked, keeping my voice even.

My uncle cleared his throat. “We wanted to let you know we’ve decided to sell the house.”

“Oh,” I said, raising my eyebrows. I hadn’t expected that, but it made sense since all their money had been seized and given tome. I was sure they didn’t know that part, or they would come after me in a heartbeat.

“Yes, we’re enjoying the country so much these days and don’t want to return to the city. We know how much the house means to you, so we wanted to sell it to you.”

I blinked as I stared down at his name on my phone screen. “You want to sell me the house?”

“We’ll offer you a fair price as long as you close on it quickly.”

Gray wrapped his arm around my shoulders, and I glanced up at him. His eyes blazed with anger.

“Why the rush?” I asked innocently.
