“Something about how I’d distract her,” Bear mumbled. “As if that’s a bad thing.”
Gray looked over my shoulder at our trip itinerary. “What do you need from us?” he asked.
“I think everything’s all set.” I flipped through a few more documents on my computer. “I just got notified that the passports are ready at City Hall.” I’d managed to get expedited ones for Westin and Bear, the only two in our group who didn’t have them. Sometimes it helped to have connections in the governor’s office.
I hesitated for a moment, tapping my fingers against the keyboard. “While I’m there, I’m going to pick up a bonding license for us. I know we haven’tofficiallydecided to bond?—”
Bear’s incredulous expression cut me off.
“Well,Westinhasn’t,” I said, crossing my arms.
“Minor detail,” Liam muttered under his breath.
A smile tugged at my lips. “I’d like to be prepared. That way, we can return to Luna as a bonded pack and register there right away, if that’s what we decide.”
“Are you sure that will work?” Gray asked. “Seems like a pretty big loophole that Luna would let us register as a pack just because we bonded in Sol.”
I grinned and my chest might have puffed up a bit. “Yeah, it is. Good thing I helped put it there.”
Bear cocked a brow. “What do you mean?”
“I worked on the inter-province agreement earlier this year. It was the first thing I did when I took the job in Luna. We included this provision in the same policy that allowed Luna omegas the freedom of interstate travel. Obviously, I had no idea at the time that I would benefit from it. It just made sense.”
“Good job, beta,” Bear said with a grin. His hand moved to my shoulder, giving it a squeeze. “I love a loophole. I’ll come with you to City Hall if you want.”
My heart jolted. “Yeah, that’d be great,” I said, keeping my voice level.
My body had a mind of its own today with the way it was responding to Bear. I didn’t know what I felt for him, except that I liked being close to him.
And if I admitted it to myself, my feelings might have grown to be something more than justfriendlyover the past few weeks.
Bear whistledas we walked inside City Hall. “I was expecting some stuffy office building.”
City Hall was impressive. The massive lobby stretched in front of us, sunlight reflecting off the marble floors. In law school, I interned with the Public Defender’s office. I’d had a shitty, windowless office in the basement of the courthouse. I’d loved it whenever I had a reason to run across the street to City Hall and get my fill of sunlight. “It’s a nice view.”
“Yeah, it is.”
I thought I caught his eyes raking down my body and I felt a warm tingling sensation. I liked Bear’s eyes on me.
Fuck, was I blushing? Bear smirked. Yep, I must be fucking blushing.
He slung his arm over my shoulder. “Come on, beta. Let’s get the paperwork and get back to our girl.”
His hand seemed to linger on me as he brushed it down my arm and gave it a squeeze. This man had seen me naked, had watched me fuck our omega, and yet something about his closeness here, in the lobby of City Hall, felt different. It was just the two of us here, without our omega between us.
The heat of his body seeped into mine and my cock twitched.
I took a deep breath to steady myself. I wasn’t going to go into the clerk’s office with a hard-on.
“Let’s do it.” I glanced at Bear.
No, I definitely wasn’t imagining the heat in his gaze.
A smile twisted my lips as I led the way to get our bonding license.
