“But you like nursing?” I asked.

“I like parts of it. Working in a hospital under alpha doctors like the one who saw you can be pretty miserable.” He hesitated before continuing. “I take on extra shifts so I can send money to my mom and sisters. It took me months to save up for that night with you.” He didn’t meet my eye and I caught the slightly burned edge of his scent.

“Liam,” I breathed, pressing my face into his neck. “I can’t believe you did that.”

“Worth every fucking penny.” He ran his hand down my hair. “But I feel like I’ve deceived you, made you think I’m something I’m not.”

My lips twitched. “Well, I saw your apartment so…” I trailed off, giggling at Liam’s playful scowl. The tightness in my chest eased. I hated seeing him unhappy.

“Bear isn’t broke,” he said. “I think he makes good money with his shop, actually.”

“Yeah, but have you seen his shop? I wouldn’t expect him to care about interior design. Or couches that aren’t ripped.”

Liam snorted. “That’s true.”

I shifted and felt his knot loosen in me. He growled, squeezing his arm around me as if he wanted to keep me attached to him. I knew how he felt. Having him inside me gave me a sense of security and connection.

“You really don’t mind?” he asked, a quiet vulnerability lining his words.

“Of course I don’t. It’s not like I have any money. Now I feel bad for taking yours.”

I gasped as his hand came down hard on my ass. “What was that for?”

Liam smirked. “Because I wanted to.” He rubbed my butt cheek soothingly. “And because I don’t like hearing you talk like that. I would happily give you everything I had if it would make your life easier.”

“I just want you here with me,” I said softly.

“Well, that’s a given.” He wrapped me up in a warm hug. His body was so large I felt like I was disappearing into it, and it was the best feeling in the world.

His knot loosened and slipped from me, causing a growl to burst from his chest. I rolled off of him, needing to stretch my hips. He propped himself up on his side, staring at where his cum was spilling from me. His growl intensified and he pressed two thick fingers inside me.

“Feeling possessive?” I giggled.

“I’m possessive of every part of you.” His words hung in the space between us, devastatingly sincere. My lips parted, a sense of peace filling my chest as I ran my fingers down his firm jaw.

“You’re so hot.” My eyes trailed down his muscular chest. He wasn’t joking about spending all his free time in the gym.

Liam curled his fingers inside me and I whimpered, causing a self-satisfied smile to spread across his face. “Fuck, you make me happy.”

He drew me close, pressing kisses all down my face, neck, and breasts. A giggle burst from me as I wrapped my arms and legs around him, and I wondered if I’d ever felt quite as happy as this moment.

LIAM

The sound of pained whimpers pulled me from sleep. I was confused and groggy as I reached my arm out, trying to find the source of the noise. I brushed against something… no,someone.

I sat up with a jolt, panic jerking me awake as I realized I had fallen asleep with Westin and thatshewas the source of the horrible noise.

I fumbled with the nightstand lamp until the soft glow illuminated my omega, curled into herself on the side of the bed, whimpering and crying.

“Westin, sweetheart?” I brushed my hand down her arm, but she didn’t respond.

Shit shit shit. She must be having a nightmare. I needed to wake her without scaring her.

I grasped her arm and lightly shook her, but that just caused her to cry out.

“Sweetheart, wake up. You’re having a bad dream,” I said, desperation saturating my voice. I turned her body towards mine and brushed her hair out of her face. Her eyes were scrunched up and a tear leaked down her cheek.
