A small smile twisted his lips. “Never thought I’d feel possessive, but you make me feel things I never have before.”

“I’m possessive of you, too,” I said, meeting his gaze, surprised by how true the words felt.

“I wouldneverbe with someone else.” His tone was serious, his eyes blazing.

I wrapped my fingers around his neck, pulling his face close. “Glad we’re on the same page.”

He met my lips with a deep kiss, and I was ready to beg him to fuck me when his phone rang.

“Ignore it,” he said, angling my head so he could take me deeper.

Then my phone started to ring.

“I have a guess who it might be. Or three guesses, rather,” I said, smiling as Bear continued to kiss me.

“They can wait. I’m selfish and want more fucking time with you.”

A knock at the door finally pulled us apart.

“I know you’re in there,” Liam shouted.

I giggled at Bear’s aggrieved expression as I jumped up from his lap. I opened the door. “Fancy meeting you here,” I said when faced with a grumpy-looking Liam.

“You didn’t answer your phone,” he said, crossing his arms as he leaned against the doorframe.

“You’re cute.” I stood on my tiptoes and kissed him. His scowl transformed into a smile, and he pulled me into a hug.

“What are you doing here?” I asked as Bear came up behind me, his hands gripping my hips.

“I suspected you two might get distracted, so I’m here to help you get the trailer and then we’re going to grab takeout.”

“Oh, maybe we could stop somewhere and roller skate,” I said, bouncing on my toes and ignoring Bear’s groan behind me. There was a slight burning in my head, but not enough to slow me down.

Liam pulled me out of Bear’s office. “Sounds like a plan, sweetheart.”

“This apartment really is…something.” Westin’s nose scrunched in a fucking adorable way.

It was mid-morning and we were almost ready to get on the road, but Bear and I needed to stop by our apartment to grab our shit and Westin insisted on coming along.

Last night, Bear and I slept in Gray’s guest room with Westin. Henry had been the one to suggest it, and the look of relief on Westin’s face when she realized she didn’t have to make the decision made me appreciate the beta. Omegas shouldn’t be left alone after their heats, even a brief one like Westin’s. Of course, the best thing for her would be to sleep with the entire pack, but in no world could I see us doing that. I fucking hated being around Gray. My alpha bristled whenever he pulled Westin close. I didn’t trust him because of how he’d treated her, but I also had to admit that part of my dislike was my alpha feeling competitive. Gray might have a decade on me, but I was taller and broader. If we were all going to be a pack, my alpha wanted to come out on top.

Westin flopped down on our ripped leather couch, giggling as she sank deep into the cushions. I cringed at the scuffed walls, stained carpet, and broken furniture. Seeing the apartment through her eyes made me realize what a shit-hole I’d been living in.

She smiled, extending her arms to me. My weight deflated the cushions and she fell into my side.

“How’re you doing?” she asked softly, running her fingers down my beard.

Fuck, when was the last time someone had asked me that?

“I’m good,” I said, lifting her chin and planting a soft kiss on her lips. “And I’m realizing how empty my life has been without you.”

The look on her face could only be described as tender. She leaned in, running her nose along my face and breathing me in.

“I thought we were here to grab our shit,” Bear said, coming out of his bedroom with a ratty duffel bag in one hand and his bike gear bag in the other.
