‘How many hearts have you drawn into other girls’ coffees then?’
He laughs, caught. ‘A few.’
‘And where does that get you?’
‘It can get me pretty far, if I’m honest.’
‘And where are you hoping your little foam hearts are going to get you with me?’
‘I wouldn’t dare to dream.’
I laugh. ‘You’re a smooth-talker.’
‘Pillow talk is where I really excel.’
‘Oh, is that right?’
His blue eyes are twinkling and I can’t say I’m not enjoying having a bit of a flirt.
‘Who’s the hottie?’ Amy asks me, draping her arm around my neck when I go inside to grab us some more beers.
‘His name is Brendan. He works at Beach Café.’
‘He’s the guy who drew a dick on top of her coffee,’ Rach interjects casually.
‘What’s this?’ Dan asks with a grin, overhearing.
Rach takes it upon herself to explain while I stand there, rolling my eyes and adamantly repeating that it was an elephant. Not that anyone is listening to me.
‘Poor old Finn,’ Dan says teasingly. ‘No more “If you’re single and I’m single” stuff, then,’ he adds with a grin, making double quotation marks in the air with his fingers.
I reel on Amy accusatorily. ‘How much have you told him?’
‘She tells meeverything,’ Dan chips in.
‘I’ll remember that.’
‘Oh, shut up,’ Amy says to Dan. ‘I do not. Your secrets are safe with me,’ she insists, trying to seem sincere.
I don’t believe a word of it.
‘Have you heard from Finn?’ I ask Dan edgily.
‘Yeah, he’s on his way.’
My heart does a somersault. ‘What do you mean?’
‘He’ll be here in a bit.’
And another somersault.
‘Wait. He’s coming here? Tonight?’
Dan frowns at me. ‘He didn’t tell you?’
‘No. Did you know?’ I ask Amy.
‘He only texted half an hour ago,’ Dan interrupts. ‘He just flew in today.’
