“Shit, uh…shit.” His gaze is still glued to Aurelia when he shakes his head to free himself from the trance. “Sorry. I—sorry.”
“Zeke,” I call out when he turns to go. Despite his initial reaction to flee, he obeys my unspoken command without turning around. “Aurelia, can you hear me?” She has a habit of passing out after being fucked hard and coming harder. I thought she’d get used to it after a while, but no such luck. Khalil, on the other hand, isthrilled. Twisted fucker. With her cheek still pressed to the mattress, Aurelia nods and I run my hand up her spine. “Open your eyes, songbird. Zeke has something he wants to ask you.”
“I can come back,” he offers hoarsely. He still hasn’t turned around.
“Close the door,” I order.
Zeke swears and closes the door before resting his forehead against the fractured wood. It happened one night recently after I fucked my wolf too hard against it. Aurelia opens her eyes and searches for Zeke in the dark. As if he can feel her gaze, he turns the moment it lands on him.
“Yes, Ezekiel?” Her voice is a hiccup since I’m still fucking her despite already coming, and I swallow my growl at hearing her say another man’s name while I’m inside her.
He speaks, but thunder rolls in at that moment, drowning out his words.
“Come closer, Zeke.”
Zeke inches forward like he’s drawn by an invisible force he’s powerless to resist. When he reaches the bed, I pull out of Aurelia and draw her into my arms as we collapse on the mattress together. I draw Aurelia’s leg over my hip before my gaze returns to Zeke, who is staring at the gap between Aurelia’s legs where my and Khalil’s cum is seeping out.
I see the desire to add his own and watch his lips part as I run a hand over Aurelia’s ass before dipping my fingers between her thighs and plugging her pussy with them. I keep them there as I kiss the top of her head.
“That’s better,” I say with a rumble. “You were saying?”
Zeke’s gaze rises, but it’s a little wild and unfocused, and his nostrils are flaring like he’s trying to scent the room. Or scent Aurelia. “We need…we need to talk about Seth.”
“No.” But my instant refusal still comes too late because Aurelia is already stirring at the sound of the alter’s name.
“Seth?” Aurelia echoes groggily as she sits up and turns around to face Zeke. His gaze drops to her breasts, and he makes a rough sound when he sees her peaked nipples that Aurelia doesn’t hear because she’s frantic now. “Did you say Seth? Why? Is something wrong?”
Zeke doesn’t answer though because he’s forcing his gaze away from the tempting swells of her breasts. His green eyes search for mine past Aurelia and I beg him silently not to do this.
It’s been a long day.
We nearly died.
I don’t want Aurelia sad and distressed.
I’m too fucking exhausted to deal with this right now.
He can take his fucking pick for why this isn’t the right time to talk about Seth. Zeke wants to tell her that something is wrong in the hopes that she might have some answers for why. I want to know too because I’m fucking worried about him, but I also know that what Seth wanted above all was for Aurelia to be protected no matter what.
Do I think she’s hiding something? Probably.
Do I think she did something to Seth? Fuck no.
There has to be another explanation, and trying to force it out of her won’t work. She has to trust us enough to come to us. We have to be patient.
Not to mention Seth willfucking kill us allfor upsetting his Sunshine and I’m not looking forward to him trying to set me on fire again. Or was that Khalil?
I’m still not sure who he was aiming the flamethrower at that day since Khalil and I were standing pretty close.
Zeke must come to the same conclusion because he shoves his fingers through his dark hair and blows out a quaking breath that has me sitting up. “No. Nothing’s wrong.”
He’s already backing away from the bed and fleeing before I can examine him more closely, so I snatch up my discarded sweats and quickly tug them on. Something’s up with Zeke, and I have a feeling it has nothing to do with Seth. The alter might have been what brought him in here, but it’s not what sent him fleeing.
“Stay here,” I order Aurelia, who’s frowning at the empty doorway like she wants to run after Zeke. She must have seen the same thing I had. Cursing, I quickly leave the bed and the room, but I don’t have to wonder where Zeke has gone.
The front door is wide open, and rain is blowing in from the strong wind.
There’s only time enough for me to pull on a pair of boots before I throw myself out into the storm behind my best friend.
