I gasped as I slid along the sheets. Rowan settled himself?—
“Lord.” A knock on the door.
“Go.Away.” Rowan’s voice was animalistic.
“I am sorry—” Hope’s voice. “But there’s something you and Evie have to see.”
“Godsdammit, Hope.Right now, a fucking nuclear warcan wait.”
I pressed a hand over my mouth to keep from laughing. Rowan sounded both pissed off and desperate. And I made it worse, by taking him in my hand and pumping him slowly. He hissed and pulled me closer.
The sound of a baby’s cry made us both freeze.
Our eyes locked.
His closed in defeat a second later. “Godsdammit,” he snarled under his breath. “Give us a minute.”
“Of course, Lord.”
Declan’s hoot of laughter made my cheeks burn. They were shifters. They knew exactly what we were doing in here.
Rowan’s furious curses as he dressed made me laugh out loud. I hurried as well, stumbling when I first slid off the bed. My legs were weak and I was still quivering with anticipation and desire.
Rowan pushed me against the wall and nipped at the column of my throat. “This is not over, Evie. Not by a long shot. The next time I take you, it will be completely. You will scream my name and beg me for more. And when the bond between us threads us together, I will make you my wife before the gods and my people.”
I lifted my eyes to his, stunned at his words, but unable to resist making a joke. “Hmm. I still haven’t decided how cute you are yet.”
Rowan’s flash of teeth and glowing irises made me laugh. I reached down and cupped him, leaning forward to gently nip at his bottom lip. “And I won’t be the only one screaming, Lord.”
Rowan closed his eyes and let out a slow breath. “You’re a godsdamned witch sent from hell to vex me.”
Reluctantly, he stepped away and adjusted himself. I grinned and slapped him on the rear before reaching for my shirt.
Once we were as decent as we could make ourselves, we stepped into the hallway. Rowan laced our fingers together andled us to the kitchen. Hope and Declan sat at the table, a car seat between them.
A smile started to form on my lips until I spotted something extremely familiar about the baby. I dropped Rowan’s hand and hurried over, my heart in my throat as I gently lowered the blanket draped over the handle.
An adorable baby blinked up at me. Big blue eyes, pale skin, and dark hair, she was the cutest thing I think I’d ever seen.
But that wasn’t all.
Powerful magic beat from the baby’s heart.
Chimera magic.
This little child was a Chimera infant.
And that should have been impossible.

ROWAN
Inoticed the magic in the instant Evie did. Her hands shook as she lifted the baby from the seat and cradled her in her arms.
My chest tightened at the sight. As much as I should be worrying about this recent development and how it might affect things, I was still trying to shake off the anger about the interruption.
