“Hey, we enjoy the challenge,” Stanley said.
She laughed and shook her head. “You all are just adrenaline junkies.”
“I can do without any drama for a while,” Brady said.
She leaned over and kissed him. “You’ve got it. Calm waters from here on out.”
“So the patch to fix the system, have you sent it?” Chase asked.
She nodded. “I did. That idiot didn’t know enough to understand what I was doing. I sent it while he was standing behind me, thus fixing the system and making it so that even I couldn’t do what he wanted me to do. Or I wouldn’t be able to do it in less than a day, as the patch filtered out to all the systems and bases.”
“Good,” Stanley said. “Hopefully, there will never be another threat like that one.”
Brady snorted and rolled his eyes. “Don’t curse us. Someone could come along and think of something worse to hit us with.”
“Goodness, I hope not,” Garnet said.
They all laughed. This was their world, and she was glad she’d only gotten a small taste of what they had to deal with all the time. The plane was in the air, and she leaned her head against Brady’s shoulder. He had his hand on her leg, squeezing every so often. So much could have gone wrong, but so much had gone right. She was thankful Brady had shown up with his team. They’d saved her yet again. Her heart expanded as she thought of spending her life with this man. No question, she was falling for him. She didn’t think she’d ever fallen for anyone before, but with Brady, she’d found the perfect guy.
Chapter 38
Brady couldn’t keephis eyes off Garnet. Once home, he tried not to hover too much, but he’d almost lost her twice this week. The excitement had been too much. He was used to being in danger, but he didn’t like that she’d been put in a position that could have ended her life. He couldn’t lock her away, but he understood that impulse.
She had just come out of the bathroom and was standing in the middle of the room. He glanced up, meeting her gaze.
“Everything okay?”
She shook her head. “No.”
He stood, moving to her. “What’s wrong?”
“I don’t want to wait.”
“Wait for what?”
Her cheeks turned pink before she could answer. He had a good idea what she was thinking.
“Sex. I want to know every part of you. But I have to warn you, I’m falling for you. I’ve never been in love before, but I imagine this is what it feels like.”
He nodded. “No questions, what I feel for you is love.”
“So we do this, we’re exclusive. Not like I’ve been with other people, really. I don’t normally date. And I’m weird.”
He held her face gently in his hands. “Darling, only you. I never want another. Just you. And you aren’t weird, you’re unique.”
Laughter spilled from her lips. “That’s just another way to say weird.”
He leaned in and brushed his lips over hers. “Not weird. You’re just right for me.”
Her hands were on his arms, and a shiver raced through him. If she kept touching him, this would lead to sexy time, and he wasn’t sure she was ready for that.
She pulled him closer and hooked her leg behind his. The heat seemed to increase exponentially. He ended the kiss and met her gaze.
“You really ready?”
“For sex with you? Yes.”
His breath caught, and his balls pulled up tight. He stepped back and looked her up and down, thinking he’d hit the jackpot. “I need to shower before we have sex.”
