“Oh, wow. I’m sorry about the negative review.”
“Funny enough, those negative reviews actually end up helping us. Our customers like having fun, but they don’t like it when the staff is abused.”
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome. I see your man is here. Have a good evening.”
Bewilderment still hung close when she approached Cy. “Hey.”
“Hey. You okay?”
She nodded. “Yeah. Did those guys call you?”
“Text. They wanted to make sure someone would be escorting you home in case the jerk stuck around and tried something.”
His words shocked her. “Do you think he would do something like that?”
“It’s happened before. Some guys don’t know how to act. Plus, Robert is out there, so I was planning on coming to pick you up, anyway.”
“Thank you for coming here. I should switch when I work.”
“You can if you like, but if you need the bigger tips, then staying on nights might be wise.”
She nodded. “Yeah. Being poor sucks. The worst part is, I had money before I started dating Robert. Not a lot, but some money in savings. He took it all.”
“Damn, that sucks.”
“Yeah. I should have left. It will take years to build a cushion again.”
He pulled her close. “Hopefully, your luck is changing. And stop beating yourself up. You got out, that’s what matters. I think your luck is changing.”
She glanced up at him as they walked out to her car. “Is that because I’m with you?”
His lips curved up in a wide smile. “Possibly.”
She liked how much she laughed with him. It had been a long time since she’d laughed this much. There hadn’t been much to laugh about with Robert. Plus having bruises on her face and torso made laughing painful.
Cy dropped a sweet kiss on her lips. “I’ll follow you home.”
His touch made her body tingle. She wanted more, but was still too nervous about her lack of skills in the bedroom. She knew she wasn’t much with her clothes off. She just hoped Cy wasn’t too revolted by her.

Anger had been Cy’s first response when he’d received the text, but he had calmed down before he made it inside Aces. The jerks were gone, which was a lucky break for them. On the drive over, he’d thought of multiple ways of hurting the man who’d put his hands on his woman.
The idea that Willa was his had felt right. She was his, and he was going to make sure she felt loved and supported. The desire to see her happy grew every day he was with her.
When he’d seen that she was okay, he’d relaxed, and the last of his anger bled away. Still, he was not happy that some guy thought he could touch a waitress working at a bar like Aces.
Honestly, if he’d been at the bar and seen it happen, he would have told the jerk to keep his hands to himself. He lived with the idea that waiters and waitresses should always be respected. Not everyone knew that lesson and had to learn the hard way.
After Willa spoke with her manager, he led her out to her car, wishing that they were going home to sleep in the same bed. He wouldn’t pressure her. Her safety was more important than getting his dick wet. He could jack off in the shower to take care of himself.
Once home, they headed inside. He set the alarm and turned to face her. She looked concerned. He pulled her close and wrapped his arms around her.
“You okay?”
She nodded. “Your friends are great. They were there in seconds, telling the guy to keep his hands to himself before I could say anything.”
