Wave turned to face them all. “We need everyone’s head in the game.”

“Got it,” Cy said.

He wouldn’t allow distractions at home to bleed into work. He had to keep it together, just like they all did. The last thing he wanted was to be the type of person who caused problems because he was distracted.

He slept on the flight, knowing once they hit the ground, they would be on. When he woke, they had updated information about the group they were being sent in to take down. They were headed into Colombia, where a group of terrorists attacked a mining operation and were holding the workers hostage, threatening to blow up the mine if their demands weren’t met.

The thing about their demands was they wanted the USA involved. When Colombian soldiers tried to deliver food, they attacked. It was a weird situation, and exactly the kind of thing SEALs dealt with.

The terrorist group wasn’t just made up of people from one country. They were citizens from eight countries, including the USA. They weren’t the typical type of terrorist group that attacked mines. As a SEAL, he’d dealt with eco terrorists, political groups, and religious extremists. This was different.

From what he understood, this group thought they could take the precious metals from the mine and do something with them. They had no idea the gold had to be pulled from the earth and that it wasn’t an easy process.

“You read the new information?” Wave asked.

“Sure did. This is going to be a weird one.”

“You can say that again,” T called out.

Cy chuckled. “This group is strange. I think we’ll have a few surprises tossed into the mix.”

T moved closer. “I agree. I think they are going to be very dangerous.”

“What are y’all talking about?” Bang asked.

“This group we’re going up against,” Wave said.

“What about them?”

“I for one think they’ll be more dangerous,” Cy said.

Bang nodded. “Yeah, we haven’t run into them before. There’s no telling how they will act or react. We’ll have to go in with our heads on straight, paying attention to everything.”

T lifted one shoulder as his face screwed up to the side. “I don’t want to get too weird about it, but I think this might be the new kind of terrorism we’ll be dealing with. I mean, most terrorists are motivated by money in some respects, but this new group is very motivated by money. It’s their God.”

Cy got what he was talking about. “That’s a good way to describe it. But unlike religious cultists, they won’t die for their God. They want to reap the rewards, and if you’re dead, you get no rewards from money.”

Wave snorted. “That makes them more dangerous than religious extremists.”

Cy wasn’t looking forward to seeing how dangerous these people were. Every situation they went into could end up with difficulties. They weren’t immune to danger just because they were special forces. Plenty of SEALs and other special forces guys had been killed in the line of duty.

The kinds of people they went up against were out for blood, and they would take it from anyone they could. This group was a wild card, and they would probably be even more vicious than religious extremists.

The plane landed, and they had fifteen minutes to get situated before one more briefing. Then they would be heading out to rescue the mine workers who were still alive and capture the terrorist.

They had to take them into custody or eliminate the threat they posed. If they were allowed to escape, they would try this somewhere else. Eventually, they would end up trying it in the USA, and that would be very bad for everyone.

Willa stepped into the police station, her heart beat rapidly like a rabbit in a race. She didn’t have a good handle on exactly what would happen during this visit. It wasn’t that she didn’t trust the police, but the last time she’d come for help, they’d blamed her for her abuse.

“Willa, you’re here,” Bree said as she stood from the chair where she’d been reading something on her phone.

“Oh wow, you really did show up.”

“Of course. Now let’s see what the police say.”

Bree approached the desk, her smile wide. “Willa is here. You can tell Detective Riser we’re ready.”
