“Get out,”I seethed.
Shadows curled in my hand. They’d been restless. Hungry. Frothing at the mouth, begging to be unleashed. They didn’t like being restrained. It wasn’t in their nature.
She scoffed, and stood in the doorway of my office. She flicked long blonde hair over her shoulder, drawing attention to the low-cut neckline of her lace dress. The swell of her breasts threatening to spill out.
Of course she wore that.
“Eyes are up here,” she baited, a grin dancing on that puckered, devious mouth. She pointed two fingers at her eyes. Then slowly, very slowly, dragged them down, pulling the hem of her dress lower. “You could have a taste, if you’d like. Just like old times.” Her tongue traced her bottom lip, catching it between her teeth.
I shifted in my seat. Readjusting.
“Regan,” I warned, her name poison on my tongue. “Get. Out.”
She huffed out a long, childlike breath.
“Fine,” she said, inspecting her nails. “Just thought I’d be nice and stop by for a visit. Catch up.” Dark eyes pinned mine. “Let you know you’ll probably be home sooner rather than later.” Cruelness clawed its way into her smile. “Seems he’s tired of waiting for her.” She pouted mockingly, but I could see the vicious hellfire crackling underneath. “But you don’t want to see me—so I’ll be going.” She turned, hand on the door.
“Wait,” I spat, already hating myself.
Fuck. If she had information, I needed to know.
Hallow fucking hell, I was in too deep.
“Tell me what he’s planning.”
A devilish smirk possessed her porcelain face.
Click. Click. Click. Her heels sounded like the ticking of a time bomb as she crossed the room and rounded my desk.
Hiking her dress up, she straddled me in my chair. One knee, then the other.
I leaned back, instinctively recoiling. Face-to-face with a viper about to strike.
Her hair trailed over my chest as she leaned in, nipping at my earlobe.
“What’s in it for me?” Regan whispered, grinding her hips into my lap.
A grunt escaped me, my hips arched before I could stop them.
What was I doing?
Her laugh was piercing and triumphant. Lips brushed against mine, about to part them when?—
No.
Shadows lashed out. They twisted around her throat like a serpent. I let them constrict. You could almost hear their haunting hisses.
She choked. A mangled gurgle passed her lips as she went pale with shock.
“If youeverbewitch me again . . .”
The darkness dragged her face closer to mine. I wanted her to feel it—my rage, my disgust. I knew the filthy, residual feel of her enthrall all too well. Not anymore.
“I won’t even tell them what to do. Just let them feast on your flesh. Do you understand?”
She let out a wheezing rasp. The only reply she could manage.
I released my power, and shoved her off my lap. She hit the floor coughing. A muffled sob bled through the sound.
