“It’s good practice for when he’s the stay-at-home dad,” Ivy told me.
“Babies! Babies!” Brea and Sophie chanted.
“First, I need to survive the puppy.”
“At least Chris can’t just show up with a surprise baby,” Elsie joked.
“Did someone say grandbabies?” Gran asked. “I’ve already got a tattoo that says ‘World’s Sexiest Great-Grandma.’” She pulled down her pants to show us.
“Good gracious!” I clapped a hand over the puppy’s eyes.
“You need to get on those babies before this thing starts sagging,” Gran added.
“You can think of the puppy as my present from you for the lasagna bait and switch,” Chris quipped, kissing the puppy’s soft furry head. They did make an adorable picture. And my womb was now also joining in the baby chant just so I could take adorable pictures of Chris and a fat happy baby.
“You cannot be serious about the lasagna,” I argued, almost tripping over the parrot, who was zooming underfoot in a remote-control car. “You ate practically the entire dish. You loved it.”
“There’s no such thing as bad lasagna or bad pizza,” Antonio said, coming by with a steaming tray of meatballs for the long dining room table already groaning under the weight of the spread of Italian food.
“Lasagna is love.”
“I guess you can make it for me again,” Chris said.
“No.” I crossed my arms.
“Please?” Chris wheedled. “It was good lasagna.”
“I really should try to make Elsie’s homemade one,” I mused, not actually having any desire to.
“I will try to make it,” Chris declared.
“Good freaking luck,” I told him.
“Hey, for you, Grace, I’d spend all day in the kitchen cooking.”
“He cooks, he hires people to clean, and he provides puppy care,” Elsie said. “You couldn’t order a better man off the internet than that!”
“I cannot believe you were going to buy a mail-order husband,” Chris said. “I’m shocked and offended.”
“It looks like I got the better deal anyways,” I said, reaching up on my toes to kiss him. “You’re the happiest accident ever.”
“I’m so glad I married you. I couldn’t love you any more,” he said, gazing at me.
“And you’re the biggest love of my life!” I replied happily.
“I think I definitely am,” he said, giving me a sexy wink.
