I watched them go. “I will never ever, ever get fake married again ever,” I said as I waited on the sidewalk with Shirley and Edward for the Uber. Dawn was breaking; the sun peeked up over the tops of the buildings. I yawned; my head felt stuffed with cotton.

“Honestly, that house better be worth it, because I’m not sure going through all the wedding trappings is even worth it if you aren’t in love with the person you’re marrying at the end of it.”

Edward patted my back, holding a cold can of beer to his face. “Let’s find breakfast.”

“You guys can come hang out at the condo. Blade’s not going to be back until Sunday from his hunting trip.”

I suddenly missed him. I wanted him to be waiting at home for me. I would tell him about the disaster of a party, and he would say something to make me laugh and feel better about the whole thing. It was one of the reasons why I lov—wait what?

Forget the disaster of the evening, I could not be falling in love with Blade.

Blade

Itexted Avery early that morning when I woke up. I wished she would write me back, but she was probably asleep.

Garrett was waiting in the middle of my room when I stepped out of the bathroom.

“What the hell?”

“Did you give Avery your credit card?” he asked bluntly.

“Yes, she’s at her bachelorette party. And if you’re going to act like this for the rest of the day, then I’m going to wish I was there with her.”

“She paid for a hotel room and a stripper,” he said flatly.

That hurt.I forced myself to keep my expression neutral.

“I’ll discuss it with her when I return to Manhattan.”

“You still want to marry someone like her?” Garrett scoffed.

“I’m not going to jump to conclusions,” I told him.

My phone beeped.

Avery:OMG the bachelorette party was a disaster.

Avery:Ida got us kicked out of the club she wanted to go to and the hotel she wanted to go to because Edward got into a fight with the stripper she bought because he was an old hookup of his who stole his beloved toaster.

Blade:I’m not even going to ask.

Blade:Though you’d think that if you spend five hundred dollars on a stripper, you would get someone who wouldn’t fight the guests.

Avery:OMG she did not charge that to your card!

Avery:I am so sorry she needs to pay that back.

Blade:Don’t worry about it. I’m glad you had fun.

Avery:Fun is not what I would call it. I really just wanted to be back home with you.

Avery:I miss you. I wish you were here now.

Blade:I’ll be back tonight if I survive this hunt.

“Is that her?” Garrett asked.
