“Let’s see what your family thinks. If you want to say yes to this dress, I can talk to the alterations department,” he assured me.
I walked out, finally feeling like a bride.
“Your boobs look amazing in that dress,” Shirley said.
“I think they’re spilling out a bit.”
“It’s gaping, dear,” my stepmother said. “You’re giving quite the peep show.” She was several glasses of champagne into the appointment.
“She’s just bloated,” Shirley said in my defense.
I have great friends...
“Blade’s eyes are sure going to fall out of his head,” Dottie said with a giggle. “He may only let you stay at the reception for five minutes before he hauls you off on your honeymoon.”
I looked down. “My cup does runneth over. Maybe we should try the next one.”
I had wanted a long dress just to have nice bridal pictures, so I put on the mermaid gown next.
“Your figure looks amazing,” José said, zipping up the dress.
It was a little hard to walk, so I took mincing steps out to show the entourage. Cassie immediately held up the GROSS side of her paddle.
“It has a lot going on in the sleeves,” Edward said. The sleeves, long and lacy, were unfortunate reminders of the eighties dress I was going to wear for the ceremony.
“But I wanted a long dress,” I said with a sigh. “The short one is so short.”
“Try it on at least,” Shirley coaxed. “Then you can try the first one again.”
I hated that I was sounding like a brat, especially since this wasn’t even as if I was marrying the love of my life, though I did care for Blade. If I had to pick a perfect guy, he would be very close. Tall, handsome, muscular, yes, but also kindhearted and not afraid to stand up for what he believed in. Also, he was nice to my rabbit.
“Are you excited to be getting married?” José asked as he helped me into the last dress. “I guess you must be if you only met him a few months ago.”
“I can’t wait to be Mrs. Svensson!” I said and turned to look at myself in the mirror.
“Your hair will be up,” José said, piling my curls on top of my head.
“It wasn’t exactly what I was expecting, but actually, it feels very me.”
“Sometimes what we least expect is exactly what we need,” José said.
At least I didn’t need help carrying a train as I walked out.
“Hubba hubba!” Dottie held up the SAY YES! side of her paddle.
“Does it look weddingy enough? It’s not too small, is it?” I fretted.
“I think we should have it taken in a little, actually,” José said, pinning the neckline on the dress.
“How long will it take for the alterations?” Shirley asked.
“Usually it takes several weeks, but I will tell them we need it rushed.”
“Can she have a veil?” Shirley asked, hovering next to me to pin my hair up with a crochet hook she had in her purse.
José came over with a blusher. The white fishnet covered my forehead and eyes. I ogled myself in the mirror—I looked fun, sexy, and voluptuous.
“Some smoky eye makeup, and you’re going to be the prettiest bride out there!” Edward said.
