Oh shit.
“Deputy Mayor!” Mace said, rushing to shake her hand. “We’re ready to fund your presidential campaign whenever you are.”
“Only Archer can pull off the flattering comments,” Meghan said, glaring at Mace.
He shriveled under her gaze. “Hunter isn’t here, is he?” my brother whispered to me.
Officer Susie rolled her eyes.
“I would like you to arrest this woman,” I said, pointing at Sadie. “For trespassing and harassment.”
“I work here!” she shouted at me. “You’re a bully!”
“If you’re firing her, that’s an internal matter, not a police matter,” Susie said as her radio crackled.
“If you’re firing my client, then we’re suing,” Meg told us, eyes narrowing.
“Lord help us!” Mace said, throwing up his hands. “We’re going to be ruined.”
“Not so mellowed out now, are you,” I said snidely.
“You don’t have a leg to stand on to sue,” Hunter growled, appearing behind Meghan, Garrett at his side, looking annoyed and irritated with life in general.
“You’re harassing Sadie,” Meg said, whipping out a notepad and starting to take notes. “All of you are harassing my client.”
“I don’t know if I can pay you for a lawsuit,” Sadie said, twisting her purse strap.
“It’s fine,” Meg assured her. “We’ll be awarded attorney fees.”
“You can’t just throw lawsuits around on baseless accusations,” Hunter countered, glaring down at Meg. “She assaulted my little brother.”
“Little? He’s huge!” Sadie screeched. “And he stood me up on a date.”
“He doesn’t even know you,” Hunter retorted.
“He sexted me. I have the whole chat chain,” Sadie said, whipping out her phone. “See? It’s on this dating app.”
Hunter scrolled through the phone. Garrett peered over his shoulder, a look of disgust creeping across his face.
“Jesus, Parker. Thank you for wasting our time.”
“That’s not me,” I protested, coming over to my brothers. Garrett wordlessly shoved the screen at me. There was a whole conversation between me and Sadie. Someone with my name and my face and my pictures had been chatting with her.
“Honestly, Parker,” Mace chided.
“She set me up. This is all fake!”
“This sounds like a civil matter,” Susie said. “If you’ll excuse us, we actually have real work to do.”
“Let me know if they give you any more trouble,” Meg said to Sadie before she left.
“I didn’t,” I hissed to Hunter.
“Just be quiet, Parker,” Hunter snapped, turning to leave.
“So, Sadie,” Mace said brightly from the doorway, “welcome to Svensson PharmaTech. I’m sure you and Parker will work very well together.”
I sprinted out after my brothers as they left.
