“Thanks for helping,” she said, kissing me. “I’ll ride back with Erika and pick my car up in the morning.”
I had made Sadie ride with me back to the convention center. I needed to know where she was at all times. Who was that man who had been with her? Had it been my father? I had been too far away and the light too low to tell. Whoever it was, I did not want Sadie off by herself.
“No.”
“No?”
“You have to come stay with me.” Ignoring her protests, I packed her and my little brothers into the car.
“I’ll drop Sadie off then take you home,” I told them.
They grumbled when I made them get out of the Tesla when I pulled up in front of my condo. With my father roaming around town, there was no way I was leaving my little brothers alone in the car.
I kissed Sadie goodbye after making sure she was safely inside.
“Keep the doors locked,” I told her.
My brothers were half-asleep when we pulled up in front of the estate house.
“Go shower,” I said to them. “Wash your hair, under your nails, and behind your ears. And don’t forget to brush your teeth.”
Garrett was waiting for me in the home office. “Two PhDs and he can’t even manage not to invite a psychopath home for supper.”
I clenched my teeth.
Garrett looked up from his screen to glare at me flatly. “And we thought Hunter was bad. All he did was lie, insult, and otherwise make a fool of himself in front of Meghan. You, however, seem hell-bent on getting your workplace hookup kidnapped.”
“Were you able to check the security feed?” I asked him through gritted teeth. Dealing with Garrett was a chore on a good day. When he was in a mood, it was like fighting a shark when all you had was a pool noodle.
“Yes,” he said. “And the only reason I’m helping you and not sacrificing you to the wolves is because Sadie is the only person able to whip that slush fund of a nonprofit that Remy’s running out of his bunker into something respectable.”
“Did you get a clear picture of the face?”
“No. The hat obscured his features. There was a blond woman with him, however. It fits our father’s MO.”
I sagged. “He’s targeting her.”
“Let him,” Garrett said simply. He held out his hand. In it was a small black object the size and thickness of a credit card. “Attach this to the inside of her phone case. We can track her with it if he takes her anywhere. It’s something Owen Frost has been working on at Quantum Cyber.”
“I’m not tracking her. That’s crazy,” I said flatly.
“When she gets kidnapped, it will be your fault.”
“She’s not getting kidnapped. I’m not letting her leave my sight.”
When I returned to the condo, Sadie was fast asleep. I undressed quietly and curled around her in bed. She was warm, and if it were any other night, I would have slept well. As it was, I could only sleep a few hours. Then, while it was still dark, I got up, went into the home office, and worked until the morning.
* * *
I didn’t realizeSadie was up until I smelled bacon cooking from the kitchen.
“There you are! I figured fried food would bring you out of your hidey hole!” she said cheerfully. She was wearing one of my shirts and her panties. The outlines of her nipples were visible through the fabric.
Sadie raised the spatula slightly as I pressed her back against the counter, letting a hand push between her legs. She moaned, and I took the spatula from her before she could get bacon grease all over me.
“I think I know what I want for breakfast,” I said, voice low as I turned her around and unzipped my pants.
I was unbelievably hard from the smell of her. I pushed her panties to the side, letting my finger make little circles in the slickness. I wanted this, and I wanted her. I put on a condom then bent her over the counter and pushed inside of her, the lace from her panties scraping against my thick cock.
