Remy knocked on the café window. Davy was with him.
"Does he have Davy on a leash?" Penny asked, cocking her head.
"Apparently," I sighed as they came into the café. Remy unclipped Davy, and he raced to Penny and climbed onto her lap. She fed him a bite of pancake.
"Yummy!" Davy yelled.
"See, Garrett, someone likes pumpkin spice."
"Of course he likes it; it's carbs and sugar," I scoffed.
"Davy has very discerning taste, don't you?" Penny cooed. "Are you excited for the party?"
"Halloween. I'm going to be a spaceship."
"What should Garrett be for Halloween?" Penny asked him.
"You're dressing up?" Remy exclaimed, voice booming around the café.
"He should be Aquaman," Davy said.
Penny grinned at me. "Yeah, Garrett shirtless and covered in tattoos. I could get behind that."

Ididn’t know what to think after the breakfast meeting with Garrett—or was it more of a breakfast date? But I had invited-slash-cajoled him into going—it wasn't as if he invited me. But he didn't protest, either, and last night he had almost tried to kiss me, probably. I was, like, ninety—okay, maybe seventy—percent sure of that.
It wasn't as if I could even force him to have a conversation or throw myself on him and start making out. Garrett was in yet another meeting. I was in his office, flipping through Pinterest, looking for party planning ideas.
