"Well, well, if it isn’t Evan Harrington," Hunter said, sitting at the dining room table, looking like the Godfather. The rest of Garrett's brothers fanned around him.
I looked between them. There sure was a lot of testosterone in the room all of a sudden.
Morticia and Lilith sauntered in. Morticia was studiously ignoring Davy, who clung to her black gothic skirt.
"Ready to go?"
"There’s a small child on you," I said, pointing.
"If I pretend he’s not there, maybe he’ll go away."
"Hi, Penny," Davy said. Then he yawned.
"They need to go to sleep," Garrett said. "You should state your piece then leave."
"Garrett’s had a difficult day," Weston said, standing up to shake Evan's hand. "Seriously, Garrett, Evan is a client. Can you act like you weren't raised in a cave?"
"I’m really confused…" I said.
"Evan’s here to make sure you Svenssons aren’t going to sue him," Sebastian explained.
"You came all the way for that?" Garrett said in disbelief.
"I have a meeting tomorrow." Sebastian said, "with the city. Evan wanted to see the property. I’m about ready to make my decision."
"I believe we have a solution that will be viable to everyone," Greg said smoothly.
Did they? When I’d left yesterday, they didn’t.
"Also," Evan added, looking at me.
"Stop staring at my girlfriend," Garrett snapped.
"I’m not your girlfriend!" I shrieked.
"You’re not? But why?" He looked slightly hurt.
"Garrett, I thought you apologized," Greg said reproachfully.
"She didn’t pick up her phone. Penny, I’m sorry," Garrett said, gray eyes intense, as if I was the only thing in the world right then. "I overreacted. I was terrible and irrational."
"You shouldn’t be apologizing, I should be apologizing!" I cried. "I put your whole family in danger. You must hate me."
"I don’t hate you! I love you!" he said, taking me in his arms. "You are the best thing to ever happen to me. I want to spend every Halloween with you."
I started crying. "I love you, too, and I thought I ruined this and that you would hate me forever!"
"You don’t buy houses for people you hate," Lilith stated.
"What house?" I wiped my eyes.
"It’s a nice apology house," Archer said, grinning.
"A random house?" I was totally confused.
"Gosh, you're so dense, Penny. Garrett bought Mimi’s house," Morticia scoffed.
"You sold it to Garrett? And you bought it?" I turned to Garrett.
