"I don't know about all-inclusive resort," he said, frowning, holding the door for me. Three of his brothers ran past us, screaming.
"Outside!" Garrett yelled.
"I haven't even seen all the trails and gardens you have back there. It must be nice," I said, squeezing his hand then helping him shoo his brothers outside.
"We just had the bridle paths redone," he said.
"Ooh, do you have horses?" I exclaimed. "I love horses!"
"No horses."
"You should get some horses," I told him. "Especially if you just had the bridle paths redone. Those are pricy—you can't just let them go to waste."
"We still have a stable," Garrett said thoughtfully. "Though I don't know if we want to turn this place into a barn."
He led me across the backyard and around a path to one of the outbuildings.
"You're not taking me somewhere to have your way with me, are you?"
"If I wanted to do that, I'd have stayed upstairs," he said, kissing me. He pulled back when we heard voices. Garrett led me into a large barn, where Remy, Mace, and several of his other brothers were looking at a green school bus.
"Why do you have a bus in your stable?"
"This isn't the stable," Garrett said, frowning as he studied the bus. There were cardboard fins duct-taped to it. "That’s the other building with the iron accents. This is the barn that Remy is using as a garage."
"The Holbrooks have horses," Remy said. "And goats. I could clear out some space for them."
"There are already too many people here," Garrett said. "We don't need an ark’s worth of animals."
"Hey, you're welcome to use my hotel," Archer said from his spot on a lounge chair he had dragged into the barn. "Instead of sneaking around in sin. You're setting a terrible example."
Garrett sighed. "Why are you even out here?"
"We're trying to decide how to paint the bus," Hazel said.
"Does Hunter know about this?" Garrett asked with a smirk.
"You need to paint it with unicorns and glitter," Josie suggested.
"Or you could do glow-in-the-dark paint!" I said.
"Yes!" We high-fived.
"We could do chalkboard paint," Hazel said. "Then every day could be a new art day!"
"Is this a permanent thing?" Garrett asked.
"Honestly, the older you get, the more like Hunter you look," Archer said.
"Shut up."
"It's part of our costume," Adrian said, patting the bus while Remy beamed.
"You entered the contest?" I asked.
"Josie and I did. She's Ms. Frizzle, and this is the Magic School Bus," Adrian said. "Or it will be as soon as we paint it something nice."
"What are you in that scenario?"
