He shot me a sly grin. “That’s why you’re my big homie, for real. You always looking out on some real life shit.”

“That’s what I’m supposed to do when you’re under my wing.”

I finished my blunt with Tory and then went to the bathroom with Yummi after he left.

When I walked in, she had the bathroom smelling fruity. She was lying in the jacuzzi tub full of bubbles. Her face was covered in a charcoal mask, and she had a towel over her eyes. I didn’t want to disturb her relaxation, so I turned on the shower and stepped in.

“I’m about to get out now, so we can leave. We have an hour before brunch is over,” she told me while I was in the shower.

“Aight… Tory brought that money from that nigga Hurricane.”

“So now what?” she asked above a whisper.

“Nothin’. That nigga my opp, but he knows not to step to me. If he tries, tho’, I’ll be the one to buy his mama her black dress.”

Yummi didn’t reply. She stood up from the tub with bubbles all over her body, walked over to the shower, and got in with me. Pressing her body against mine, she stood on her tippy toes and kissed me.

“Well, I’m not ever going back to that nigga. I don’t love him and haven’t for a long time. Whatever happens, happens… as long as nothing happens to you.”

I wrapped my arms around her. “You know a nigga can’t touch me.”

She rinsed all the bubbles off her body and then got back out.

I quickly finished my shower and got dressed. I threw on some Prada swim trunks, a tank top, and some Nikes, knowing we were gonna spend the day by the pool at this day party. Yummi slipped into a Balenciaga bikini top and black jean shorts.

We headed outside, and the valet pulled up my ride. I slid into the driver’s seat and took us to The Venetian, a spot with aday pool party that was buzzing. It was everything you’d expect from Vegas: luxury, a whole vibe, with a side of energy that could outshine anything in the world. The crowd was a mix of people looking to ball out and tourists trying to live their best lives. We passed the casinos, still packed at noon, before parking near the event.

We walked into the spot, and all eyes were on us. We grabbed brunch and found a spot by the pool. I made sure I caught a good buzz off the mimosas they were handing out. The food was solid, and I was ready to call it a day after we had eaten and partied for three hours. But not Yummi. She had plans.

“Let’s rent bikes and ride along the strip,” she suggested as we strolled the boardwalk outside.

“A nigga ain’t rode a bike in a minute, so let me get me a bottle of water first.”

She giggled. “You’ll be fine. But we’ll get you some water. I ride bikes all the time for exercise.”

We rented two Schwinns and cruised to the strip. I snapped pictures of Yummi, as usual, and she insisted we take some together, too. I wasn’t a fan of the camera, but she was excited, and I couldn’t resist.

We rolled by a bungee jumping site. Yummi was nervous as hell when I told her I wanted to do it.

“You sure you don’t want to do this by yourself?” she asked, her voice shaky as we walked up the stairs.

“Nope, you’re coming with me. What I tell you about that scary shit? As long as I’m with you, ain’t nothing to fear. That’s the same for this jump—and for life.”

“I know I’ll never have to be scared with you,” she said, smiling faintly. “So I guess I’ll face my fears.”

I grabbed her hand as we got closer to the edge. We were strapped together for a couple’s jump. I was always thedaredevil, so as soon as the countdown started, I didn’t wait. I jumped.

Yummi held me tight as we plunged fifty feet, the rush making me feel alive. We were chest to chest, her heartbeat racing against mine as we got to the bottom, where we almost touched the manmade lake under us.

“There goes your heart beating like mine again,” I joked as we were brought back up.

“It does? I never noticed... but that wasn’t as scary as I thought. It felt good.”

“I know it did. So, what’s next? I’m hungry.”

She laughed. “Boy, we just ate brunch. We’ve done enough for the day. We can chill back at the hotel until dinner. There’s snacks in the room for your hungry ass.”

“I ain’t tell you because I wanted to surprise you... But we’re ‘bout to fly back home. I’m throwing a party tonight at Velvet South. I invited everybody, including Solace, ‘cause she fucks with Jayson now.”
