“Yes…and no.” I pour the cereal in a bowl and add milk. “But what they know is kind of common knowledge. Which is what makes me think they’re not actually spying on me.”

“What do you mean?”

“My parents’ death isn’t a secret. And my family history isn’t a secret either. Not to everyone.”

“Right. So whoever is sending the stuff could have been watching your family line for years, waiting for another witch to come about.”

“Now that is creepy to think about. But it makes sense. Magic has run in my family for centuries. I didn’t know, but that doesn’t mean others didn’t either. Melissa knew,” I say bleakly, knowing bringing up the woman who manipulated Gemma into trying to kill me still makes her feel terrible.

“No one’s heard anything about her?” Gemma asks softly, not looking at me.

“Nope. She’s wanted for tampering with a crime scene, so if anything does come up, I’m sure they’ll let me know.” My phone rings, and I grab it from where I left it last night. “Speaking of work…”

I swallow hard. Dammit. Get ready to lie in three…two…one…
