“Once they’re born?” I can’t help my laugh. “I’m more worried what happens once they start moving, or —imagine— once they start walking? We’re going to need eyes in the back of our heads, all of us.”
That makes her laugh too. “I have no idea how pair parents deal with it. Especially if they’ve got twins. I’ve seen how much energy it takes a pack to raise young kids. I can’t imagine how hard it is on pair parents.” She snuggles close to me and I wrap a blanket around her.
“I guess it’s possible, but they must be so very exhausted.”
My parents are a pack too and I imagine that when it was just me, since I’m the oldest, it must have been pretty easy. But once my siblings started arriving, things got busy very quickly.
Though, it’s common that once the eldest kids are old enough, they help with raising the younger ones. It’s not supposed to happen, but that doesn’t stop it from happening.
Just like it happened with me. It’s not as common for female Alphas as it is for Omegas or female Betas, but since they needed extra pairs of hands to help out with the little ones before my designation showed, I got roped into it. And one the pack realised I was good with kids, they didn’t care I was an Alpha, they expected me to look after them all the same.
Vera might be a middle kid, but she probably still has a similar experience, especially once some of the older kids started to leave the house and she became the eldest one still there.
I don’t want any of our kids to ever experience that unfair expectation, the expectation of becoming a parent to their siblings, even though they’re still kids themselves. Because the parents simply don’t have the time and energy to look after all of them themselves.
It’s unfair and robs them of their childhood.
I snuggle in the nest with Vera, holding her close.
