"The path cannot be empty. One must follow where the other has gone, lest the balance slip from our grasp and the Veil be torn."
And so it was written that no Veilwalker would pass from the world without a successor to bear the weight, lest the kingdom stand unguarded and the debt go unpaid.
Thus, when the time came, the chosen one would be called before the King, and they would kneel, and the King, keeper of the covenant, would take the sacred blade and say:
"You are given, not taken. You are chosen, not lost. You are bound, not forsaken."
And the faithful would answer:
"The Veil shall hold."
For the King is the shield of the people, and the Veilwalker is his blade. One cannot stand without the other. One cannot falter while the other remains.
And should the Veilwalker turn from their duty, should they forsake what has been given, then the burden shall fall to another, and the blade shall be lifted by one who will not break.
Thus was the law sealed, and thus shall it remain.
For the King speaks with the authority of the Fates, and the Veilwalker moves by his word alone.
