Cade
One Month Later
I smile as I open the door and step inside the clinic. “Good morning, Cade.”
“Hi, Fiona,” I greet, walking toward the counter where Becky usually sits. On Saturday’s, the front-end ladies and the nurses rotate and work every other weekend.
“Go on back. She might be in an exam room, but you can wait in the hall by the nurses’ station.”
“Will do,” I state, nodding to the mother and child sitting in the waiting room.
I can hear voices in one of the two exam rooms with the doors closed, so it doesn’t surprise me when I pop my head inside the nurses’ station and she’s not there. I set the flowers on the counter and step back outside the space.
It takes a couple minutes before I hear a door open and watch the woman I love walk out of the exam room. She’s a sight, her scrubs hugging her curves and her hair piled high on her head in one of those messy bun things, as she places the chart in the plastic holder beside the door.
Then, she turns my way and notices me immediately.
“Hey,” she greets, a big smile on her gorgeous face.
“Good morning,” I reply, holding up her favorite iced coffee as she approaches.
“Thank you.” She takes the offered beverage and sips. “So good. I don’t even care that it’s cold outside.”
Just then, the second door opens in the hallway, and Dr. Houston walks out. “Oaklee, Isiah is ready. We’re going to send a prescription into the pharmacy,” he says politely, nodding to me.
“Absolutely, Doctor. I’ll do that right now,” Oaklee responds as the good doc grabs the chart at the other door and knocks before entering.
“I know you’re busy. I’ll let you get to it. I just wanted to say hello.” I step forward and press a kiss to her lips.
“I appreciate the visit and the iced coffee,” she replies.
“You can show me how much you appreciate it later when we’re alone,” I state with a wink, making her laugh.
“Will do, big guy,” she says.
“Here, let me set your drink on your desk so you can go prep the next room,” I state, extending my hand.
She takes a quick drink before handing it over. I set it on the counter next to the flowers and return to the hallway. We walk together and pause outside the room she needs to step inside.
“I’ll see you at my place in a bit,” I say quietly, bending down and brushing my lips across hers.
“Yep. I’ll run home, change, and grab my bag. Should be there by one.”
“And then we’re running to grab a bite for lunch?”
“Yes,” she replies, leaning in and placing a chaste kiss on my lips.
God, I love it when she does that.
“See you in a bit, beautiful. Love you.”
I head for the front entrance with a smile on my face and love in my heart. I knew the night we met she was going to change my life. Even in such a short amount of time together, I already know it to be fact. Everything is better with her beside me, and even though it’s still too early to make major declarations, I can see where this is heading.
Someday, I’ll make her mine forever.
Until then, I’ll spend every moment of every day proving to her she’s always first to me.
