The elevator dinged, and then his phone did too. He checked it as they got on. “Looks like our horse thieves have been sentenced to three months jail time and community service.” He showed her the message from Sheriff Chris.

She scowled. “They should have gotten more.”

“Well, they didn’t actually get away with the horses, now, did they?”

Zoey stretched her arms over her head. “I could really use three days of lying on the beach doing nothing. Do you know how hard it is to plant 88 acres of trees?”

He rolled his eyes—they’d planted forty acres in the fall and the other forty-eight in early spring. “Yeah, because I planted every one of them right along with you.” He tickled her side, and she tucked in her arms, giggling.

“I can’t believe we’re going to have a house there, too.”

He nodded. “I can’t believe you talked my dad into giving us easement through Westbrook land.”

She rolled her eyes. “It wasn’t that hard.”

He thought back to what happened in the lobby and realized she must have worked a deal with his dad. “What kind of a trade did you promise?”

She instantly became deeply interested in the flower wallpaper. “Huh?”

“Zoey?” He put a note of warning in his voice. “Why do I feel like I’m about to clean the fish tank with Tad?”

She swatted at him. “It’s nothing like that.”

“Then what?”

“I, uh—” She cleared her throat. “—promised we’d name our first baby after him.”

Hunter hooted.

Zoey put her hands on her hips. “Why is that funny?”

He drew her in for a hug. “Because I would have done it anyway.”

She grinned. “Oh yeah?”

“Yeah.” He lowered his mouth to cover hers, relishing the plump feel of her lips. The elevator dinged open. “So, do you want to get started on that …?”

She giggled. “I think we could make him sweat for a while.” She sauntered off the elevator and glanced back at him over her shoulder. “But there’s no reason we can’t practice.”

He surged forward, scooping her into his arms and kissing her all at once. She held his face and returned the kisses all the way to their hotel room door. Hunter counted his lucky stars that he’d asked Zoey to dance all those months ago. Best decision he’d ever made.

“Are you planning out a to-do list?” Zoey brought his thoughts back to the moment.

“There’s only one thing on it—to love you.”

She grinned. “Funny, cuz that’s all that’s on my list too.” She kissed him as he fumbled with the key card and lock.

Once the door opened, he stopped and looked into her loving eyes. “I love you, Zoey Westbrook—all the way down to my boots.”

“I love you too, Hunter.”

His kisses turned slow, savoring, and all about love as the door to their honeymoon suite swung shut.
