Startled, Nash stared after her retreating figure. “What’s going on?” It wasn’t clear who he directed the question to, and he searched each face for an answer.

Harrison pointed at the door. ”Don’t just stand there you, idiot. Go after her.”

Because Harrison was so sure of the action, Nash did exactly that. He caught up with Kensington at the elevator. ”What’s happening?”

She pounded on the down arrow key. “I need to leave now.”

“And I guess I’m coming with you?”

She glanced at him. “You’re going to have to.” The doors to the elevator opened at the regular pace, but the way Kensington threw herself between them, you’d have thought they were moving in slow motion. “You definitely need to come.” She nodded. Her lips pressed together in thought. “You need to meet my dad.”

”Why the rush?” Nash boarded the lift.

”We need to get there before he dies.”

Nash’s lunch lifted to his throat, and it had nothing to do with the elevator’s descent.
