Boone exhales slowly.

The diner buzzes around us.
Forks clinking.
Coffee pouring.
Normal life.
But the threat is already creeping back.
“I spent my whole career protecting systems like that,” I say quietly.
“Making them stronger.”
“Smarter.”
“Harder to break.”
Boone nods.

He studies my face.
