Star excused himself and walked to the balcony, needing some fresh air. Whenever he thought things were going great, another curveball was thrown in front of him. He thought he'd been shocked to know men could get pregnant, but his past still overshadowed everything else. Star pulled out his phone to look up more about male pregnancies since he had some time and to get his mind off his past but stopped when he heard someone come up behind him.
“Are you okay?” By the sound of the voice, Star knew it was Anubis.
Star nodded, stuffing his cell phone back into his pocket. “I just needed some fresh air for a bit. It's a little overwhelming.”
“We're almost done.” Anubis walked over to the railing and leaned against it casually. “So, I didn't get to ask, how have you been?”
“Good. Vivenne's been keeping me busy.”
Star stared at the other man and couldn’t help but admire how he looked good in anything he wore.
“Why do you keep looking at me like that?” Anubis asked.
“Who's looking at you?” Star huffed and pried his gaze away from the man, making Anubis laugh.
“You're cute.”
Star turned his head, hoping to hide his heated cheeks.
“So, I hear you'll be working with the director Sky Walker.”
Star's eyes widened in surprise. “How did you know that?”
Anubis chuckled. “Word gets around in this community.”
Stat had gotten a small part as a computer analyst in the mini-seriesCrimson Nexus, which followed an elite task force that infiltrated an international criminal organization. Star had heard a lot about the director, like how he was fast-paced and would only do two or three takes at the most. He was also similar to Anubis's style of directing, where things could change at a moment's notice.
“Can I give you some advice on working with Sky?”
“Sure.”
“Don't be afraid to speak up. Sky's a little more open to suggestions than I am.” He chuckled, which was infectious, bringing a smile to Star's face.
“You weren't so bad,” Star told him.
“No? I could have sworn you hated me by the end of our shoot.”
Star shook his head.I hated that you weren't there for my last day, he thought. “It was a learning process for me.”
“Good, I'm glad you got something out of it.”
He wanted to tell Anubis that his toughness on set had helped him so much in his career so far, but instead, he changed the subject. “I got some good news today,” he said, unsure why he wanted to share Tanner's request.
“Yeah, what is it?”
“My best friend asked me to be a godparent to one of his twins.”
“Really?” Anubis said with genuine joy. “That is great news, congratulations.”
“Thanks. It was unexpected. Is it silly that I’m more excited about becoming a godfather than I should be?” He looked at Anubis, who now stood closer to him but didn’t touch him. A soft breeze blew and ruffled Star's curls just a little, and the collar of Anubis's shirt. A soft yet masculine scent wafted in the air, and Star bit the inside of his cheek to stop himself from moaning.
“That's not foolish at all,” Anubis said in a throaty whisper. “It means he trusts you with his treasures.” He smiled, clearing his throat. “Want to know the cool thing about being a godfather?”
“What?”
“You get to spoil the kids and become their favorite uncle. Then send them home to their parents.”
“That is a plus.” Star saw that as a good thing, for sure.
