Other than paying off Chester, Anubis fudged with the crew's memories of some of the events from the day prior. Anubis realized he was protecting a man he'd only slept with once but was insanely attracted to, even if he had some doubts about how Star had come into his life. Star's eyes briefly stopped in Anubis's direction before he walked to his trailer.
Looks like it's going to be a long day,Anubis sighed.
“Anpu, is something wrong with you?” Thor's question pulled him from his thoughts.
“Why do you ask that?”
“I don't know. I get the feeling you're hiding something from me.”
“I'm fine. I'm just thinking about a few things.” Anubis smiled, then changed the question. “Hey, want to be my plus-one for the awards?”
Thor quirked a brow, as if knowing what Anubis was up to but, like a good friend, didn't call him out on it. “Why don't you take Star?”
“Will you stop bringing him up every five minutes?” Anubis sighed tiredly. “Just tell me if you want to be my date or not.”
“I see. So your current mood has something to do with the cute redhead.”
“Thor,” Anubis growled.
“Nah, you know I hate going to those damn things just as much as you do,” he said, chuckling. “But if you can’t find a date by then, I’ll go with you.”
“Cool. Look, I gotta go. Everyone is waiting for me to get started.” Anubis stood and was about to end their call, but Thor stopped him.
“Me too. I have to get to a meeting. But hey, you know I'm here if you need me.”
Anubis smiled. “I know. And same here.”
Contrary to what he'd told Thor, he disconnected the call and didn't rush out to work. He still had another hour before they started shooting. Anubis had come to the set earlier than normal because he was having trouble sleeping and needed something to do to keep his mind busy, so after reviewing the footage from the day before, he made notes on scenes that needed to be shot. The good thing was Star didn't have to redo any of his scenes. Although he said he was fine, Anubis didn't think he could let Star go through those scenes again. He pulled out his notes just as there was a knock at his trailer door.
“Come in.”
“I have your coffee, sir.” Anubis didn't look up when Tyrek, his assistant, walked in and put his drink beside him.
“Thanks. How many times have I told you to call me Anubis?”
“I'll work on it, si...Anubis.”
“Good.” He picked up his coffee and took a large gulp. “Is everyone here?”
“Yes, I've done as you asked and spoken to the actors you want for the reshoot. Also, you have a meeting at one with the set director forMy One-Night Stand. Bianca Simmons wants to speak with you. She said she found the perfect actress to play Rebecca and wants you to meet with them.”
“Yes, okay. Do you have any information on the actress?”
“Yes,” Tyrek said, putting a folder down in front of him. Anubis flipped it open and saw the name Sundi Noxx and a picture of a striking woman.
“Run a background check on her. I won’t meet with Bianca until I’ve read up on the actress.”
“Yes. Oh, and do you know a director named Tanji Cuttler?”
Tanji Cuttler, of course, Anubis knew that name. The man was once the talk of Hollywood, winning awards after directing an independent film, and then one day, he disappeared as if he had dropped off the face of the Earth.
“What does he want?” Anubis asked.
“He sent a script. He wants you to take a look at it.”
“Where is it?” Anubis said, finally looking at Tyrek.
“It's right here.” He handed Anubis a manila envelope, and instead of pulling out the script, Anubis set it aside for later, “Okay, anything else?”
