Chapter Thirteen
ANUBIS
“You're not too old to get a good thrashing, Inpu,” Osiris said.
“And if I were still a child, I would be scared you would,” Anubis snarled, his irritation palpable as he saw Star slipping out the front door.
His father's call had come at the worst possible moment. He had Star in the palm of his hand, ready to bend to both their desires, but as always, the old man had to ruin the mood. He could have ignored the call but knew his father wouldn't call unless it was an emergency.
“What happened?” Anubis asked in a calmer tone, even though he didn't feel in any way collected. His cock and body were still burning with desire.
“A malicious spirit has escaped,” Osiris said gravely.
“Why are you telling me that? It is not like it's the first to find a way to escape the underworld.”
“I agree, but this one was so strong that not even the demons could contain it. I need your help tracking it down. It will be a bother if he possesses a human body.”
“That could be a problem. What was the soul before it died?”
“A murderer is all I can gather,” Osiris said. “I’m having my people look into its past. For now, we need to find it. I can’t allow a killer demon soul to wreak havoc on the world. Think of my reputation, Son.”
Fuck your reputation! What about my fucking blue balls? You just stopped me from getting laid, you asshole,Anubis wanted to scream at his father but took a deep breath. He could get his people on it and concentrate on other things if he had more information. “Do you know where it went or who it’s after?”
“I'm not sure of the exact target, but I’m in Valleywood because I believe that is where it is. I was waiting for it to reveal itself, but if it can possess someone, eating away at the original soul before moving on to another until it finds someone strong enough to settle in, who knows what kind of destruction it could cause if it succeeds?”
“How did you figure out it has that ability?” Anubis asked.
“It lived inside of three demons before escaping.”
“Are you telling me an angry soul is running around with demon power?” Anubis growled.
“I’m afraid so, yes. With the ability to possess and its thirst for blood, it will be on a killing rampage.”
“Father, how could you–” Anubis stopped, getting more annoyed with his father, since he'd made many mistakes while running the underworld. But this clear dereliction of duty made Anubis want to scream.
But it was unlike his father to make one of this magnitude. Souls escaping from the underworld was nothing new. However, malicious souls were different. They were the kind that died holding onto various grudges against those who had done wrong against them when they were alive. And after death, they found ways to return to exact their revenge. Some became malicious ghosts haunting the ones they hated. But it had been so long since a malicious soul with the power of demons returned to the living. Whoever they were after would surely need divine protection.
“What world did this soul come from?” Anubis asked, trying as he might to sound calm.
If it was one without supernatural powers, the demonic soul would be easy to find. However, if it was born in the one he and other powerful gods were living in and with its own abilities, it could spell trouble for them. The soul could possess anyone with powers and live within them without the host knowing, slowly eating at them, driving them mad until they became that person.
“It came from Valleywood. However, I cannot ascertain who they originally were. It seems they figured out how to hide their past.”
Fuck, this isn’t good.Anubis gritted his teeth. “Have you spoken to Hades if you can find him?” he tiredly asked.
“Yes, I was able to contact him, and he's also searching for the soul. So, I need you to do the same.”
“Fine,” Anubis said as a new thought came to him. “Father, I need you to answer a question.”
“What is it? I don’t have much time,” he said, sounding quite annoyed with Anubis.
“Have you been meddling in my life lately?”
“What the hell are you talking about?”
“Don’t play dumb with me, Father. I’ve warned you before to stay out of my love life.”
“Son, you’re a grown man, and I have things to attend to.”
