“So you’ve known him for a long time?” Star felt a little jealous when he shouldn't be.
A smile of nostalgia spread across his face as he said, "Yes, I've admired them since I was a child. They are truly the gods among us all."
Star mentally crossed his eyes.Hero worship much?
“Can I give you some advice?” Chase said, and Star quirked a brow in his direction. But despite himself, he nodded. “Let go of your past fears. You've fixed your mistake and are no longer the person you were before that night. So I suggest you grasp onto the second chance they gave you and live a good life. After all, you're in a whole new world filled with magic waiting for you to accept the power you were given. You are not as weak as you think.” He moved closer to Star but did not touch him. “And once you open your heart to the magic, you will be able to see your true love.”
“What the fuck are you talking about?!” Star felt confused, but he lashed out in anger instead. “You don't know who I am or what I've been through.”
Chase didn't seem to take offense and simply smiled. “Trust me. Everything will be clear once you accept that your rebirth is a blessing and not a curse.”
“Wait,” Star said quickly, stopping him before he could leave. “You know what happened to me? So you know who gave me this second chance?”
“I do.”
“How do you know? And who is it?”
“That I can't tell you,” Chase answered. “But what I can say is, I won't reveal your secret. So you can relax.”
Star nodded, not sure what to think. The fact that someone knew that he was reincarnated baffled him, yet it was oddly comforting. It would be nice to have someone to talk to about what he was going through and who didn't seem to think he was losing his ever-loving mind. “Can...can I talk to you about it sometime? I need help to understand what's happening to me.”
Chase's face lit up in delight at Star's question, catching him off guard. “I'd like that. Let's exchange contact information.”
Star glanced around the room before hastily retrieving his phone from his pocket, seeing several missed calls from Vivienne and two from a number he didn't recognize. Noting the missed calls, for the time being, he quickly switched phones with Chase, inputting his details before handing it back.
“I'll call you sometime,” Star said, meaning those words.
“Okay. I'm going to go so you can get dressed. I'm sure you have things to do.”
“Thanks.”
With a gentle smile, he reminded Star, “Don’t forget what I said. Open up your eyes, and don’t be afraid to explore the wonders of this world. Embrace the magic, and you will discover there's more to the world than what's above the surface.”
“You talk as if magic is real.”
“If it wasn't, you wouldn't be able to shift into a cat every full moon.” And with that, he departed, leaving Star with a lot to ponder.
How does he know everything about me?
Star's phone vibrated, bringing him back to his senses. Glancing down at the screen, he saw Vivienne's name. He quickly answered the call because he was certain she would send out an all-points bulletin on him if he ignored it.
“Hey, Vee, what's up?”
“Is that all you have to say to me?” she drawled. “Where the fuck are you?”
“I'm still at the club,” he told her.
“What?” she said in surprise. “I knew you hooked up with a VIP dom. Who was it? Tell me.”
Star went to tell her but stopped himself; he wanted to keep his night with Anubis to himself. “I don't kiss and tell.”
Vivienne whined. “You're no fucking fun. And here I thought you would be the one to tell me all your secrets.”
Star chuckled. “Listen, I'm heading to my apartment to get some rest. Do you need me for anything?”
“Why? You need to spend time with your dom?” She snickered.
“No, he and I agreed it was a one-time thing.”
