Anubis smiled. “No, they won't. As far as anyone knows, Neith is the face of the company, but with her leaving for a while, that responsibility will be left to you. Besides, who said I was only going to make one suggestion?”
“I have a bad feeling about this,” Sobek whined. “I thought you were worried about the whole butterfly effect.”
“I'll make sure nothing like that happens,” he said. “Just know that anything I do is for the success of our streaming platform.”
“I trust you, Cuz. I know you would never let me down.” Sobek smiled.
“Same here, Bek.”
“So, will you tell me how you got Azazel to cancel the deal he and I made?”
“Can we not talk about that?” he grumbled.
“Did he trick you into agreeing to something?” Sobek chuckled.
Anubis sneered. “That crafty red-eyed devil changed tactics on me during the middle of our negotiations. At first, he wanted more After Life shares, but now he wants me to be a magical district representative.”
Sobek furrowed his brows. “What the hell is that?”
“It's one of the recent changes Loki and Azazel are implementing to improve Valleywood's magic.”
Sobek huffed. “I honestly can't believe Loki is taking this mayor thing so seriously and improving the residents' quality of life.”
“Trust me, if your magic is woven with the town, you will do everything you can to keep it intact.”
“That's true. Wait, don't tell me you are going into politicsandacting? Don't you have enough on your plate?”
“Mighty Ra forbid I do some shit like that. I'm simply putting a district under magical protection. You and I know how weak Valleywood is. Anyone can show up in the city. Our magical presence needs to be protected.”
“Valleywood is not as hidden as Vale Valley,” Sobek said.
“Valleywood has more land and a larger population, so the magic is spread thin. Not to mention, with every magical entity that settles here, the city expands in size...”
“And stretches the magical barrier, and it gets corrupted,” Sobek added, cutting him off.
“Yup.”
“So you're just feeding magic into one district. When does this whole thing start?”
“Not for a while,” Anubis responded. “Azazel and Loki want to find other candidates for the other districts.”
“I'll help any way I can,” Sobek said.
“You can't,” Anubis told him. “The deal is I have to do this on my own.”
That made Sobek laugh.
“What's so damn funny?” Anubis furrowed his brows, glaring at his cousin.
“Everyone seems to have really misunderstood our relationship.”
Anubis shrugged. “Who cares what they understand? I just want you to be happy, Bek.”
“You too, Anpu.” He smiled. “Are you sure that Azazel only wants you to protect a district magically, and he's not secretly pulling you into politics?”
Anubis's brows creased deeper; Sobek had a good point. “He wouldn't fucking dare.”
“Hey, this is Azael we're talking about, best friend to the god of tricks.” Sobek chuckled. “You better watch your back, Cuz.”
